    Summary

Five years ago he had stood here with a limp and a cane, a hair’s breadth from eating his gun in depression, no prospects, no family, no friends, just a washed out middle aged army doctor. Here he stood again and apart from the limp he was back to where he had started. It seemed like after years of being away from Baker Street, life had come a full circle and he was back where he had begun. As though life had chewed and spat him out as if he had a bad aftertaste.

Sherlock had chosen to save John then. Would he consider doing it again, after everything he had been through?

    Bookmarker's Notes

Powerfully written, this amazingly hot work is so much, so much more. Finally! John's layers of self-importance, his righteous indignation, and his misguided 'feelings' and care for Sherlock come to a head. He finally understands, as we too come to understand, at last. I adore, in fact, revere Sherlock's self-love here, his return to his center, his luminosity here is pure fire...

John ascends, Victor is finally a character I care about and Sherlock's largess is finally explored in more ways than simply physical or even mental. The 'spritual' here, combines all forces and makes for the ultimate Dom Sherlock, the one that exists upon everyone's first meeting of this Great Man. The one that transcends all depictions of him and will always continue to shine through even in fics to come.

This work is part absolution of BBC's errors - corrections if you will - and part translation of the constant core of Sherlock Holmes from Doyle's conception. It is brilliance, and continues to unravel in meaning, importance, permanence through subsequent readings because you WILL want to reread all of quantum's works several times. You will desire it, and you should definitely do so.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Wow... where do I begin? Wanting to leave comments for the author and not being able to because of the site wonkiness disabling comments - boo!, I am tempted to fuse said comments here... .

Not only is this fic superbly rendered in its writing, historicity, and resonance of characters to canon, it offers a salve for the highly f*cked up treatment Sherlock suffers in his unrequited spaces with John Watson. For this reason, I found that it healed some very awful spaces of hurt waged through disappointments witnessed in the BBC series post-Series 2. Not only is Sherlock revered as he should be, the entire clan is transformed into more loving manifestations of themselves through this simple transformation that includes the entry of Sherlock's sagacious savior. This work has important wisdom to share and model, answers questions and leaves doors open to inquiries best pursued personally. Overall, it is a feast of the senses and a joy because this 'GREAT MAN' is finally treated as such! Brilliant work!

    Summary

What Sherlock thinks is, On the day I die, be it in a dirty alley at forty or in my bed at eighty, the last thing I will remember is tonight, the way you looked at at me on the snowy pavement, cheeks pink with the cold, breath puffing in frosty white clouds, your heart in your eyes and snowflakes in your hair. I will remember that single perfect moment in my life, that moment I knew I had everything I ever wanted, and whatever happens next, I will die content.

What he says is simply, "Marry me."
