He does that therapist head tilt that can almost feel patronizing, but Jody has learned just means he wants to know more so that he can help her. Only, where is she even supposed to begin with that?'Is it any wonder?' she says instead of really answering. When Ben just keeps giving her that look, she cuts her eyes away from him stubbornly. 'I just don't like talking about him. It makes me think about him, and then I have to remember it all, and I don't wanna do that.'

Blaine laughs. He rolls himself over and tucks an arm under his head to let him look at Sam properly. Their faces are a few inches apart, so Sam can see every little detail; the tiny crease between his eyebrows; the slight stubble on his cheeks because he hasn’t shaved in two days (because Sam has persuaded him to stay over for two nights in a row); the way the tip of his tongue slides along his bottom teeth before he speaks.
The last observation leaves Sam with the urge to lean in and kiss him.

It catches him properly off guard when it happens, mostly because it hasn’t happened in years.
He’s been out for the day with Ben and Lexi- the rare summer sun had managed to put even Ben in a good mood, so Lexi had convinced the two of them to take her to the zoo (not that it had taken all that much convincing on Callum’s part- he still wasn’t immune to Lexi’s puppy dog eyes in the way Ben was). The whole day had been blissful- It had just been the three of them, and it felt like they had their own little world.
That’s why it catches him so off guard.
