An alternative plot of the story with a believable setup. It was interesting to think more about the balance of power in the city than how Taylor will win her next fight (though there was still plenty of the latter). Some of the interludes I liked a lot because the character viewpoints were unique.

The fight scenes were mostly written well, but every now and then the author focuses on describing something happen nearby for much longer than Taylor could actually pay attention given what she was just in the middle of. There were multiple times when I was confused about where a group of people were now.

Quinn Calle’s assistance seemed slightly overpowered. Sure, he's a great lawyer, but a few of the things he did made him seem like more of a personal assistant, which he isn't billed as. I wondered how he had time to stay with Taylor so much – if he’s so great, wouldn’t he have other clients demanding his time?

The story doesn’t end with finality, which is slightly disappointing, though it’s hard to end a Worm story with finality without addressing every threat in canon. I didn't see an overall theme or point of the story; it just seemed to stop after a big battle while foreshadowing more battles ahead. Maybe the sequel ends better, but I know there is an in-progress sequel to that, so probably not.

    Summary

After he and Neo barely escape the Battle of Beacon with their lives, Roman is perfectly content never to see Literal Flaming Bitch or Little Red and her merry band of Huntresses-in-training ever again. But the troubling new voice in his head has other ideas. And unless Roman suddenly grew a (suspiciously professorial-sounding) conscience, he’s got a serious problem of his own.

A good start that shows what Roman could bring to the fight against Salem. It also was a good exploration of how Oz having a host would work, and a gentle introduction to this part of canon, which I haven’t watched yet.

I don’t like that the story doesn’t really end here and the sequel is not yet finished. At the end of the story, the protagonists have had a decent victory, but I didn’t like how many of the opponents they fought were not dealt with permanently and would probably come back.

The story is impressive in the way that it makes plausible “what if?” changes to the characters lives, then plausibly draws the characters together again while portraying the characters are different but recognizably themselves. The adventure is fun.

I kind of wish more of the plot was resolved by the end, but at least much of it was, and the main characters are left in good positions.

The two romances were formed unrealistically easily, so I didn’t love that part of the story. But at least the characters were cute together.

In 1993, Gilderoy Lockhart points a stolen wand at Harry Potter and Ron Weasley with the intent to Obliviate them.

The wand doesn't backfire. Gilderoy's "discovery" of the Chamber of Secrets is a short-term success.

Other consequences are not short-term at all.

This story had some really intriguing starting chapters. It also explores a lot of aspects of the world thoroughly. I liked Snape’s point of view and his gradual character development.

Some of its changes to the world (via changes to Snape’s actions) don’t seem fully justified by the initial change, though. The fight against Voldemort was decent and was thorough but felt a bit too easy. Also, I’m not sure if the story ever explained what happened to Gilderoy Lockhart – if it did, it would have been in the first five chapters. Also, the story had Peter be sentenced to death, then show up later as a surprise that reflected badly on Fudge, but it never explained how that happened. The only explanation is that Fudge secretly released him, but Fudge wouldn’t have any good reason to risk his reputation like that.

I liked that this story spent plenty of time exploring life after Voldemort. I found the new headmaster’s ideas for improving the Hogwarts school system interesting and original – they are suggestions worth remembering. However, some of the post-Voldemort scenes, like where Snape discusses the history of Merlin after discovering a certain portrait, didn’t build up to anything interesting in the story and would have been better left out.

It had a good premise and setup about visiting Xing first, but the story ended up focusing too much on Edward’s romance and too little on the plot for my taste. The story described a whole bunch of planning, but the actual execution was pretty anticlimactic. The main characters were never challenged by the villains.
