The thing about Jared is that he's bizarre.

The thing about Jared is that he's bizarre, and Richard sees that, and sees the way other people react to that, too. He thinks there's something about Jared that maybe should embarrass him.

Jared has nice eyes, Richard thinks instead.

The S.O.P. is simple. They’ll sneak around after hours, in Richard’s room, or in the garage, or in the middle of the server space. Painfully vigilant, effortfully quiet, and afterwards exceptionally fastidious. No trace left, like nothing ever happened.

Rinse and repeat, in weekly intervals. That’s the routine. They’ve gone through about three months of the routine. It hasn’t failed. It won’t fail. It can't fail.

    Summary

When Harry sits down with Malfoy, he's really only looking for a reprieve from the constant stares and whispers. (Mostly.) What he gets instead are a series of strange events that lead to a friendship that is something else, questions that nobody knows how to answer, and the realisation that the person that Harry doesn't know how to hate, anymore, seems to be the person who knows exactly what he needs.

A story in which everything is complicated. And yet, somehow, none of it is.

Good 8th year fic. I think the tags a little overly cautious so you can certainly read this if BDSM dynamics don't appeal to you at all.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I have bookmarked this work for the sole purpose of expressing my distaste for it. This is, as a friend noted, the first time I have seen ao3’s mission of being a safe space for writers just flat out abused.

A variation of Winter has been posted to the Archive before. Because we are a typically high functioning, self-policed community it was subsequently removed after other fans expressed hurt and displeasure to the author with regard to its sensitive subject matter. The internal politics of this fandom and this ship, in particular, make it especially tone deaf to produce a work of fan fiction wherein certain characters are the victims of very real, deeply troubling world events.

Posting a piece of fan fiction like this one, then orphaning it and thereby ensuring it that it cannot be deleted or altered, is repulsive in its clever selfishness. By orphaning this work, the anonymous author has essentially lifted two middle fingers high in the air in response to anyone who might, at the least, take offense at it and at the worst, find it incredibly upsetting.

I don’t make a habit of telling people what they can and cannot write (or read) – but everyone knows that the Holocaust is off-limits. That’s just common sense. I literally cannot think of an instance when using the Holocaust as the backdrop for your derivative fiction is appropriate. People have stories to tell about that time, and they should be told, but for the love of God: tell them in your own voice, with your own characters, or with historical ones.

    Thanks.
