"I looked up flights and knew you wouldn't get here for a bit, so I…" Kao trails off. "Well, I just thought it'd be good if someone was here."
Pete feels his hackles rise like Kao is baiting him into a fight. Pete knows it's a dig at him for leaving; but what else was he supposed to do? Just live seeing Kao every day, while they went to the same school, and had the same friends.
"Well, I'm here now," Pete says, instead of taking the bait. It feels like swallowing down glass just to get it out in an even tone. Kao hovers.
ORAfter Pete goes on Facebook Live to clear up the issue with Non and Kao, he doesn't out them to everyone watching, and Pete and Kao don't wind up back together. Years later, Pete returns home due to a family emergency and Kao crashes back into his world.
