Summary
Summer turns to early fall, and the breeze is cooler and heavy with the smell of salt. In the morning before Masaomi wakes up she sits down by the boardwalk and inhales the air slowly, appreciating how crisp and clean it is in her lungs. The air in the city always made her feel like she was suffocating. Here everything is okay, and she can breathe just fine.

Summary
Perhaps it’s the fact that Pieck reminds Annie of the better half of herself, of what she could be if she tried to reconcile all the thorns and barbs waging mental bloodshed inside her. The girl is disillusioned underneath her deceptive placidity and at times cynical, but not jaded or fatalistic like she is, not in the way that made Annie almost enshroud herself in jagged crystal not too long ago.

The heroes are hired to attend a fancy weekend New Year's retreat with their sponsors, and Kotetsu and Barnaby end up having to share a room and a bed. When Kotetsu wakes up wrapped around Bunny, he's forced to realize his feelings are more than platonic and have been for a long time.

These shorter pieces largely deal with Grimmer's struggles with his emotions, the struggles of his wife trying to make the best of a slowly failing relationship, and the aftermath and understanding reached after all is done.
