  1. Summary

Britain, 1980. Gryffindor isn't what Slytherin sees in it, and the reverse is way more true than that. Lily Evans doesn't know she looks different depending where you're standing, the Blacks know exactly how they come across and like it that way, and Severus Snape isn't exactly who anyone thinks he is—least of all himself.

A series about (mostly) smart, (reasonably) creative, (variably) passionate people whose country has snarled up around them into a wicked problem despite (nearly) everyone's good intentions.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is that quite good series with the human perps and victims, completely uncute children, and other good OCs—the one where Sally Donovan needs to get whapped upside the head with an LGBTQ-studies textbook despite being apparently an IPV expert, Mycroft is handled with compassion but some distaste, the main pairings are mostly companionable-type rather than passionate, and Lestrade is seriously going to get investigated by Internal if he ever goes for that promotion. The one with the Ripper investigation at the end, which should never again be read while suffering food poisoning or similar. Seriously, self, why did you do that to me?
Oh, right, because you were like six stories in at that point and it was too good to pause.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    Seminal:
Has most of the virtues of Linear Circle (philosophy, unapologetic and thoughtful characterization, fundamental cross-gen avoidance trope, gentle ruthlessness, joie de vivre, overall competence) without all the shouty, righteous, cross-temperocultural foresoothery and repeatedly underlined failure to understand that wordplay =/= pun.
Loses the story in the final couple of chapters, as soon as it tries to focus on plot and world-fixing.
Rating probably bumped up a bit for safety by archivist; definitely slashy but not actually super-explicit.
