    Summary

In books, in movies, no one really remembers dying when they’ve been magically, miraculously resurrected, but Eddie does. Vividly. Remembers the pain, and falling, and how much it fucking hurt, and how alone he was, up there, far away from Anne or Dan or Venom or even Carlton fucking Drake. Alone, and scared, and hurting.

He remembers the darkness coming to get him, different from the darkness of Venom taking him over. A darkness that had been empty. Terrifying. He hadn’t wanted to die. He hadn’t wanted to fail. He’d died knowing he had, and that after him there’d be millions the symbiotes would mow down, and that he was alone.

Venom had brought him back, but for a time that had stretched on for longer than he knew, even now, he’d been dead.

He can’t shake it off, the memory of it replaying in the back of his head where Venom used to be while the medics try to get him warm and answer questions.

Venom died alone too. Burning, far out of reach.

Venom has stopped moving, now he’s hovering around Eddie’s ribcage. He’s still, but Eddie can sense the unsteady vibrations, irregular flashes of anger and something terribly close to fear.

    Pain.

I’m sorry. Eddie thinks, a little desperately.

    Don’t leave me, Eddie.

(Or: Eddie gets sick. Venom gets separation anxiety.)

    Summary

Remaining neutral about Eddie Brock was much easier in principle when he’s the unseen ex of your girlfriend, a little harder in practise when you’ve helped him through the worst week of his life.

“Pay up.” Anne flops down next to him on the couch two months later. They’re still fishing bits of the Life Foundation Rocket out of the Pacific, but no evil or chaotic neutral ex-terrestrial goo has been recovered. Supposedly.

Dan fishes the promised $20 out of his wallet, “He finally told you.”

Dr Dan Lewis would like to stop feeling like the third billed in the romantic comedy that is his life.

Dan had thought the Brock Report was great and that Eddie Brock was the coolest man in San Francisco.

He still, painfully, kind of thinks this.

“Hold on – is it human?”

    “Well,” Eddie starts.

Venom, who’s partially separated himself, enough that he has a face with which he can look at Dan and Anne, says, “it’s perfect,” which isn’t remotely helpful.

(There's going to be a symbiote baby. Dan and Anne find out.)
