    Summary

    “Mr. Lecter—”

“Doctor,” he bit out before he could stop himself. Where did Jack find this one? He sounds impossibly young... too innocent to be making calls to men without the patience for him to gather his wits about him.

“Doctor Lecter,” came a squeaking response. “Forgive me for the interruption—”

“Please get to the point, Agent.” Another beat of silence, before the phrase he never wanted to hear spilled across the distance that separated them; words he dreaded as much as he did the cold. Words he hoped would never come, but knew to anticipate before the end.

“Agent Crawford asked that I call, sir. It’s Will Graham. I’m afraid he’s been injured.”

Hannibal’s phone fell from his numb fingers.

In Inkara, the rocks were hard, the snows were deep, and professions bred true. You were what you were born.

Rodney was born to miners and he knew, even before his eighth year - when he was first taken under the earth, into the enclosing dark, and set to work - that he was going to have to break that changeless edict and flee to a different life, or die, before he was very much older.

    Summary

In an effort to end war, countries have legalized government-sanctioned killings as an outlet for aggressive individuals. In this way anyone who wants to kill can sign up as a Hunter and be assigned a victim, but after they make their kill they must then switch to Victim Status and play victim to another Hunter. Hannibal Lecter has been on many such hunts and looks forward to them. But he’s suddenly thrown for a loop when he’s assigned a victim unlike any he’s had before.

A Hannibalized telling of the short story “Seventh Victim” by Robert Sheckley.
