Summary
It happens in three quick movements. Arms above head, hands crossed palm over palm, Buck surging forward, and then—
“Whoa.”
A murmur, but the kind that feels loud—the kind that punches out of you, breathless and surprised. Eddie’s eyes are wide, lips left parted in the wake of that exhalation. Buck is pinning Eddie’s arms over his head with one hand, the other low on his best friend’s hip, his weight pressing forward so that they’re chest to chest, mouths inches apart. Buck feels that exhalation against his skin, tickling, exhilarating, ghost-like in the way that it makes his hair stand on end.
“Told you I could take you.”

“Do I need, like, a lawyer? Or a social worker? What do I do, Tim?”
“First, we go home, get some sleep. We can make a plan tomorrow.”
Lucy nods. “I knew I could call you.”
“Anytime. You know that.”
Her brown eyes are shining up at him, and Tim knows he should not be as charmed as he is, but it is Lucy. She’s always charmed him.

It’s not like they were in contact; Tim had deserved a clean break.
But she had wondered.
