Summary
When a Dybbuk attaches it self to Ace and threatens to kill him, Nancy has no choice but to make a deal for his life that would force her to leave him forever without warning. Seven years later, due to a string of murders in Horseshoe Bay that Nancy is sent by the FBI to investigate, she is forced to reckon with the choice she made, not knowing if her presence back home will trigger the Dybbuk to resurface once again.

Nancy could acknowledge it was selfish of her to drop this on him right before she planned to leave him, but she needed him to know how she felt before losing the opportunity to tell him forever. She was prepared to double down.
“Well, I do.” Nancy halfheartedly lifted her arms, not sure what to do with them. “Love you.”
It was the first time she’d ever told a man she loved them, and it suddenly struck her that it might be the last.

I’m definitely not a big part of it, because according to the spell the person can’t resist being around the object of their affections, and Ace had no problem pulling away from me when Bess walked in the door.”
Nancy chokes, unable to keep back a bark of laughter. “Ace hit on Bess?”
“I’d pay to see that again,” George says wistfully, crossing her arms and looking at the doors leading into the restaurant. “Funniest shit I’ve seen all year.”

Summary
Sometimes, when everything feels too heavy, when Nancy’s hidden burdens weigh on her so much that she feels like she can’t move, breathe or think, she goes for a walk. It starts at The Claw, passes Lily’s flower shop and ends just past Harbor Joe’s. And in the back of her mind, she hears Ace’s words — not real, but exactly what he would say to her if he knew she needed to hear it. She reminds herself that her pain is keeping the man she loves alive.
Or, Nancy Drew looks for a way forward with Ace that won't kill him. Ace, meanwhile decides to take a page from her book. Post-3x13, canon-compliant.
