    Summary

Stiles starts thinking about dropping out of college days before the end of his junior year. He's always wanted to be in law enforcement like his dad, but after spending so many years watching his friends die from the supernatural and being exposed to the worst of humanity through his internship program, he just—can't.

Derek's been on the fringes of the McCall pack since he returned to Beacon Hills. He doesn't feel comfortable there, he doesn't feel comfortable when he's gone—so he spends most of his time alone, helps out Scott when he needs is, and for some reason, answers every text message Stiles sends him.

A year of FaceTime and phone calls don't prepare him, however, for Stiles tossing a duffle bag on his bed in mid-July while he talks about the awesome road trip he has planned for them. Derek doesn't remember agreeing, but he does know this: where Stiles goes, he'll follow.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I'm such a fan of road trip fics, and in a fandom that has some truly knock-me-over, brilliant ones, this one definitely stands out. It's the literal and metaphorical journey, against a backdrop of locales that were intimate yet wide open. The writing in this is superb, the use of switching POV pitch-perfect, and the emotional payoff was everything I could hope for. Stiles and Derek are brilliant individually. Together, they're that much better.

    [excerpt]:
“No,” Derek says, pointing to them.

“Yes,” Stiles says, pointing back. “The Jeep is an iconic road trip vehicle, man.”

“The Jeep breaks down every six thousand miles, man,” Derek says, raising an eyebrow, and Stiles scoffs.

“I just drove her back from D.C.,” he says, “and I got her oil changed before I came over here. She’s fine.”

“Yeah, you just drove her across the country, that’s my point,” Derek says, but he allows Stiles to wave him off and picks up the box of apple fritters from the kitchen counter, jamming it in the crook of his elbow so he can grab the coffee cup sitting next to it. Stiles has his duffle bag in his hands when he goes back into the living room, backpack slung over his shoulder, and he shakes his head when Derek gestures for it.

“I got it,” he says, looking around. “Need anything else? We good?”

He shrugs. “We can buy anything we forgot,” he says. “Where are we going, anyway?”

Stiles’ face lights up, and if Derek had any negative feelings towards the idea of a road trip, they’re gone when he feels the relief bleed into Stiles’ scent. “Pacific Coast Highway,” he says, “beginning to end. I realized last night that I’ve gone out east a few times, and obviously we had the whole Mexico thing, but I’ve never been up north. Figured we had all summer, why not? Have you been?”

“The Pacific Northwest, yes,” he says, closing his apartment door behind them and locking it. “But never on the coastal highway.”

“Something new for both of us,” Stiles says, and Derek tries not to read into how pleased he sounds.

    Summary

Isaac is asleep in a chair. The angle of his neck makes Derek wince in sympathy.

    "Isaac," Derek says.

    Isaac snaps awake immediately.

    "You're-"

    "Where's Stiles?"

    "Stiles?" Isaac asks.

Jesus. It's not like they know more than one.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Wow!!! Not a time travel fic, nor an amnesia fic, but it brings together certain elements of both and uses them in such a brilliant way. I cannot believe how much this covers in just 6.2k. The use of an alternating timeline is sublime, the flashbacks are gorgeously effective, and there's not a single thing I don't love about this story. Mega kudos.

    [excerpt]:
Stiles bolts awake, sitting up, eyes wide and panicked. He says, "Derek-"

Derek doesn't let him finish the thought, just climbs onto the small hospital bed and grabs Stiles' face, one hand on either side of his head.

He says, "Stiles. Stiles. It's ok. You're awake now."

Stiles looks at him: relieved, confused, unsure.

Derek says, "The first thing I ever said to you was, 'This is private property.'“

“Yeah,” Stiles says, voice hoarse, “I remember.”

    Derek says, “This is real."

    Stiles echoes, "This is real."

Derek tilts his head forward, touching their foreheads together. They stay that way, eyes closed, just breathing for a long time, until Scott says, "What the hell is going on?"

    Summary

Stiles knew it was a bad idea to go into the woods, but little did he know his actions would cause the death of everyone around him. Running from the thing that killed Danny, Scott and Stiles stumble upon a pond, which happens to hold a strange man named Derek who floats around in the middle of it. Derek assures them they're safe now.

What appears to be salvation is nothing more than the start of the death of everyone Stiles cares about. The being known as Derek haunts him at every turn, unsatisfied until Stiles succumbs to Derek's whims. Stiles isn't sure if that involves sexing him or eating him, and he really doesn't want to find out.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Dark, beautifully unsettling, and mind the tags. It is a Sterek HEA in the darkest and most horrific way, but this is one of the most original TW fics I’ve read, and possibly the best, most creative Mer-creature fics that really harken back to their siren/grim nature. The way Stiles goes from fierce and resisting to inevitably succumbing to Derek’s thrall is heartbreaking and simultaneously triumphant. Masterful horror.

    [excerpt]:
In the safety came exhaustion and that was horrifying of its own accord. They might not really be safe; Derek could be playing them. There were a million questions going through Stiles’s mind; most of them about if Derek could be reasoned with or if he merely seemed able to be reasoned with. The tail stretched upwards again, the fins heading towards Stiles. Derek was not the size of a human, Stiles noted as those fins kept moving at him. His body froze in terror as the tail kept at him, finally touching his cheek lightly.

“I promise I’ll be gentle,” Derek promised calmly, looking up at the moon. The fin traced his lips fondly. “I’m not usually so rough.”

    Summary

Draco Malfoy's life is boring and repetitive. He supposes he shouldn't complain, since that's better than sharing a house with Voldemort, or doing time in Azkaban.
When he gets trapped in a time loop, however, he is forced to confront the routine he has fixed for himself, and try to break out of it. It isn't all bad, facing no consequences for his actions can be fun for a bit. But after he starts visiting the Auror Headquarters and having brief but remarkably pleasant conversations with one Auror Potter, he finally has the real motivation to break out of the time loop - something worth sticking around for.

    Bookmarker's Notes

An AMAZING Drarry Groundhog's Day AU that's incredibly written. The author really captures everything about the trope, showcasing Draco's character development beautifully. There's a hint of mild angst but it's the sharp humor, magical theory, and tons of subtle, touching moments that make this a fabulous read. Draco's voice is pitch-perfect, and when he and Harry have their heart-to-heart, I may have teared up a bit.

    [excerpt]:
Time was a mysterious business, and he had no interest in playing with it. In his darkest moments, perhaps, he had wished for a Time-Turner, a way to go back and change some of his decisions. During his time at Azkaban, he dreamt of it, of being able to relive his sixth year, his fifth, his third, his first. Of being able to make a better impression on the Hogwarts Express, of realising his father was not perfect or infallible just a little bit earlier.

He was lucky he got out when he did, or those thoughts would have driven him insane. Upon his return to the office, he asked Eleanor, in as casual a voice as he could manage:

    “Eleanor, what’s the date?”

She raised her eyebrows at him.

“It’s the tenth,” she said. “Why do you ask?”

“Just making sure,” he replied, his heart sinking.

    Summary

Stiles hasn't been known as Stiles for the past six years. He's Mitch Rapp, a CIA assassin with 117 kills under his belt. When he gets a late night call from Scott, saying Derek has been taken, he's on the road back to Beacon Hills in less than ten minutes. He's going to get Derek back, even if that means adding a few more kills to his ledger.

An American Assassin/Teen Wolf fusion. Rated E for violence which is canon typical for AA but might be considered extreme for TW. If you're familiar with the plot of AA, please be assured that no female or beloved TW characters have been fridged in the making of this fic and pairing.

    Bookmarker's Notes

An American Assassin-inspired Sterek fic that's got a brilliant premise, incredible characterizations, tension-filled action scenes, hurt/comfort, family and pack dynamics, and a damaged but oh-so-strong Derek and Stiles. Stiles is a BAMF to end all BAMF here, yet the softness (and humanity) that remains will make your heart ache. FABULOUS.

    [excerpt]:
“Stiles,” Scott continues, “it’s Derek. They’ve got him. He came back to help us and they took him. It’s - it’s bad.”

Stiles screws up his face against the swell of emotion. “Ok,” he says, somehow managing to sound completely normal and not a bit like his whole world is crashing down around him.

He ends the call without another word. Scott knows he’ll come. That’s why he called him.

The bone deep tiredness has faded into the background. Now he’s on high alert, running on adrenaline.

He doesn’t hesitate. He grabs his go bag and the weapons cases, and an extra case of ammo, and loads it all into the sleek, black car with long practiced and disciplined efficiency.

    He’s going back.

    But he isn’t staying.

And he has no intention of leaving without Derek. Not again.

He’s still human. But he’s no longer 147 pounds of pale skin and fragile bones.

And sarcasm is most definitely no longer his only defence.
