Pretty much what the summary says. Everyone thinks James and Paulie are dating, but they aren't. James gets very strange about it, and Paulie gets very upset about it, because Paulie WOULD actually like to be dating James. Then James has the epiphany that he also would like to date Paulie. Ends hopeful.

A name-on-wrist soulmate AU where being outed by a same-sex name is still newsworthy if you're in professional sports and is a very real concern for some NHL players. Despite the shifting attitudes, no one in the sport has ever come out publicly.

Tyler has always felt relieved that 'Jamie' could be a male or female name, it makes hiding his sexuality a lot easier. Jamie's not been so lucky.

Jamie thinks all his life that if anyone found out that his soulmate is a guy, the world will take away hockey from him. To Jamie, hockey is everything.
Tyler wants nothing more than to have someone who'll love him for him.

They come into this with different baggage. Jamie is resentful of "having to hide" (there's a lot of kind of internalised homophobia there), as well as resenting Tyler for thoughtlessly homophobic shit he said when he was younger. Tyler is elated to have found his Jamie, but hurt by feelings of rejection (since Jamie goes hot and cold on him) which tie into his parents and sisters kind of rejecting the part of Tyler that acknowledged that the name Jamie could reference a person with any gender. The rejection gets worse when the Bruins trade him to Dallas. And then Jamie makes it complete by telling Tyler they can't be together yet because Tyler would out them and take hockey away from Jamie.

Jamie acts like a complete dick to Tyler at times, bordering on emotionally abusive but for me, personally, not quite ticking over into it [for long] because as soon as Jordie or Tyler or someone else calls him out on it, Jamie apologises and tries to do better by Tyler. He's unlearning a lot of shit, and while that doesn't excuse his behaviour, it explains it and allows for a little more forgiveness and patience.

Geno and Sid bon when Geno has a "bond crisis" (a situation during which he HAS to bond, or he'll die). Bonds are sealed by sexual intercourse (penetration). Geno is too out of it to properly consent, Sid bonds with him anyway because the alternative is Geno dying.

There's a lot of PTSD, guilt, and shame attached to both of them in the aftermath. Sid feels like he trapped Geno, Geno feels the same way about Sid. At the same time, there's no one else Geno would've wanted to bond with.

In addition: People have telepathic abilities to varying degrees. They can read emotions in other people. Geno's a weak reader, Sid can't read at all. Sid is very good at protecting himself from being read. Flower, for example, is a strong reader. Through their bond, it becomes easier to read Sid, but Sid still can't read anyone.

    Slowly, they figure things out.

Sequels deal with Sid going to therapy and overcoming the sexual trauma.

“So,” Mitch Marner, who is apparently his soulmate, says, “where’s yours?”
    Auston stares, dumbfounded.
“Oh, man,” Mitch groans. “It’s not on your butt, is it? Please tell me my name’s not on your butt.”

Mitch has dozens of soulmates, Auston "only" has Mitch. Auston pines (so does Mitch) and thinks he's not the one for Mitch, nor all that special at all. (He's wrong.)

Nicke let Sasha pick him up in a bar in Arlington in late 2007. He let Sasha convince him to move in with him in the summer of 2009, after Nicke finished his sophomore year and the Caps lost to the Penguins in the second round of the playoffs.

In the spring of 2011, Nicke graduated with a Bachelor’s in information technology, and Sasha asked Nicke to marry him. In the summer of 2012, they got married in Sweden, the only one of their three communal countries where it was legal.

On June 7th, 2018, the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup. On July 9th, Nicke asked Sasha for a divorce.

The papers were signed by the end of the summer.

Nicke and Ovi got married 10 years ago, and then Nicke asks for a divorce after the Caps win the Cup. Nicke is not a hockey player in this.

Ovi kept Nicke a secret. He never acknowledged Nicke in public, not even as a friend. Nicke decides that he can't continue to live his life for Ovi, and divorces him.

Hit me right in the feelings several times, incredibly well done angst and hurt. At the end, Ovi confronts Nicke in public and swears he'll go wherever Nicke goes (Ovi thinks Nicke is moving to another State), and practically proposes to him. In public. This is when they get back together.

Team as Family tag: Nicke "wins" Andre and Christian in the divorce.

Special appearance by Holtby, who's the best minor character.
