Everything can break, Tony said. It’s just a matter of applying the right pressure.

    You didn’t believe him.

But you’re standing on a field covered in blood and ash, and your vibranium shield is shattered at your feet, and Tony is lying broken at your feet, and you--

    Shatter.

    Summary

Hob Gadling is sitting on his couch in nothing but his boxers. It's a nice, warm summer night, about 10 pm. It's Friday, and that gives him plenty of time for his task until he has to see his students again. His body aches all over, in some places worse than others, and the worst of all it hurts inside his chest. But one thing after the other.

    Summary

He really is just as beautiful as Hob remembers him.

Something ethereal, made of alabaster and stone and as pale as clean snow. Hair both artfully and terribly messy, frame slim and lean in his black coat. His eyes are still that icy blue, dark and piercing.

His Stranger, his Friend, has come back. Several years late, but Hob is willing to forgive. Perhaps he shouldn’t be, he doesn’t know, but he is.

(Or, Dream and Hob finally get to really know one another. And maybe Dream needs more time to heal than he’s willing to admit.)

    Summary

“My kids call me Professor Gadd. Coworkers call me Rob.” Hob nuzzles his cheek along Dream’s shoulder, enjoying the scent of his own cologne lingering on the sweater Dream is borrowing, as well as the smell of stardust and sleep and whatever other unnameable things the Endless was made up of. Feeling wildly content, Hob hums wordlessly. They are spending this leisurely Sunday on Hob’s couch, with Dream sat comfortably between his legs, reclined against Hob’s chest. Hob gently squeezes the pale hand intertwined with his. “Your turn.”

Dream sighs and Hob can feel his snarky little eye roll even if he can’t see it. “The Greeks call me Oneiros.”

    ---

Or, Dream and Hob trade names, kisses, and some untold troubles.

“I had a son,” Dream answered. Hob froze, then struggled to hide his shock. “He’s…gone now.”

“I am so sorry,” Ashley put a hand on his arm. He didn’t shrug it off, but he didn’t react to it either, and after a moment, she withdrew. “Can I ask—what was his name?”

“…Orpheus,” Dream said, after a pause. “He was called Orpheus.”

“That’s a lovely name,” she said softly. “Like the myth.”

“Yes,” Dream said. “Very much like it.”
