Arthur smiles, a slow, disarming smile. Merlin takes another sip of his beer to hide his reaction. “Don’t think I’ve seen you around here before,” Arthur says. “What’s your name?”
What the fuck? Merlin thinks, and then: oh my god. He suddenly understands—or thinks that he does—why Arthur is here.
OR: Arthur pretends to be a stranger, and tries to pick Merlin up in the tavern.
Morgana crests the hill, that last hill between her and the lake of Avalon, just in time to see Merlin cast off his boat from the shore, Arthur leaning against his side: bloodied, weak, alive. In a matter of seconds, the boat crosses the border between this world and the next and enters Avalon, traveling beyond Morgana’s reach.
Her shriek of rage flattens the woods around her for twenty feet in every direction.
[Everybody lives, post-finale AU. Arthur/Merlin, Morgana/Gwen. Arthur reaches Avalon, and makes a choice that changes everything.]
Merlin has a way about him. Arthur doesn’t know what it is, exactly—he just knows that it’s there, and it’s Merlin, and no one else has a way about them quite the way that Merlin does.

It is the first time that Merlin has heard Arthur’s name spoken aloud since he died. He shuts his eyes. “How can this be it?”
“It hasn’t ended,” Gaius says. He clasps Merlin’s hands. “Not yet.”
(After Arthur’s death, Merlin lives a life. A very long life, indeed.)
Sherlock almost takes her hand, then decides against it. “Joan,” he says instead, and then gets down on one knee, never looking away from her face.
Joan stares at him. “Are you serious?”
Korra and Asami, after the events of the show. All the ways that being in love is easy, and all the ways that it's hard. But mostly, all the ways that it's more than worth it.
(All works stand alone but technically exist in the same timeline.)
