"Gruesome, but fascinating" - from the personal notes of Reginald Hargreeves
Number Six unleashes his inner demons at three years old. If only that were metaphorical.
“I’m not telling you you’re a failure. I’m not telling you there’s something wrong with you. I’m telling you that you aren’t a killer. Do you understand there’s nothing wrong with that?”
There are no second chances at the District 2 Career Program. You fail, you're out, no exceptions. Unless, of course, you can convince them otherwise.
13-year-old Devon passes all the tests to make it into full-time residential training, but flunks out on his sweet disposition and temperament. He has one shot to change their minds.
(a brief character study and exploration of the ways the Centre warps its children)
- Part 18 of We Must Be Killers: Tales from District 2
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
It's part not giving in
And part trusting your friends
You do it all again
But you don't stop trying
“You don’t even know me,” Latani says. It comes out much less sharp and a lot more helpless than she meant it to.
“Yeah, but.” Alinta turns to her, dark eyes glowing in the moonlight. “Sometimes you just know, right?”

When the Arena falls and Brutus dies, Lyme leaves for District 13. It's soon clear that Alma Coin is less than perfect, but with her best friend dead and no other options, Lyme vows to make the best of her decision. Meanwhile, Brutus' youngest Victor joins President Snow in the Capitol to be the symbol of loyalty and the voice of her people as District 2 prepares for war.
The twist: when Brutus fell, the hovercraft team who retrieved his corpse fought to resuscitate him, refusing to stand by and watch their hero die. A second rebellion — split off from District 13, fearing that Alma Coin had gone too far — saw their opportunity to gather fighters and a potentially valuable symbol, and recruit them to fight against both the Capitol and District 13.
The Victors of District 2 are now split along five fronts: Enobaria in custody in the Capitol; Lyme and Claudius in District 13; Petra, Ronan and Odin in the Capitol; Brutus and the Peacekeepers who turned traitor to save him in District 8; and the rest at home in District 2, mourning and waiting and fearing whatever is to come.
Some things will change, some will not, but one thing is true: District 2's Victors have the chance to make it out alive.
until then we'll have to muddle through somehow
The holidays, Lyme thinks as the train glides into District 2’s Central Station, are fucking exhausting.
Lyme isn't the only Victor with a complicated relationship to the holiday season, and for her part she'd really rather pretend the whole thing doesn't exist. It's going pretty well, until she pulls a Victor who decides to go all-in.

Tributes, victors, mentors, people who love them. Their lives, their deaths; who remembers, who doesn't.
Character exploration, missing scenes and backstory for canon and original characters: how the District 2 Career Centre makes its tributes, how they win their Games and how their mentors put them back together. How some rebel, some don't and some never get the chance.
We grew up in golden light
Every chance to get it right
What did we do with it?
It’s gone, what I had back then is gone
Can’t get it back again
Sorry for the things we should have done
Sorry for the kids we pushed too far
Sorry now for all the lonely hearts who can’t move on because
For love, for dreams in the night
For days to come when we’d be all right
I can’t remember why I did the things I did
I was just a kid
All the lines we knew back then, they now are faded
All the laws we once obeyed, they have betrayed us
People that I used to hate, I hardly remember
Forgive the children we once were

Alma Coin's dictatorial tendencies don't go unnoticed by everyone; over the years, a faction splits from her rebellion and seeds itself through the districts. They have no resources, weapons, or strongholds, but they do have eyes and ears. And so they infiltrate and gather intelligence from both sides, waiting until the time when they can save Panem from President Snow and Alma Coin.
When Brutus is pulled from the 75th Arena and accidentally resuscitated by a squad of District 2 Peacekeepers, the second resistance takes a chance. Coin considers District 2 an acceptable sacrifice -- a convenient scapegoat, full of loyalist traitors -- but after all, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
A fix-it that isn't; nothing is rosy, nothing is easy, but maybe a few lives will be saved along the way. Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, but canon compliant until "A District Upside Down".

Nick Fury brings together some of Panem's best and brightest for a Hunger Game that will, hopefully, kick off the Rebellion and end President Snow's reign of tyranny. But how optimistic is he being? Can people really change? And how much sacrifice is too much?
Tharkay is fond of remarking upon Laurence's summer home along a particular river in Egypt, but neither he nor Granby are exempt from vacationing there from time to time.
