Wen Qing returns to full consciousness the way she imagines babies emerge from the womb: bewildered by a rush of blurred shapes and incomprehensible sounds. She falls to her knees. The ground is soft green underneath her body. She takes long, shuddering gulps of air. A healthy infant would cry after birth; Wen Qing does not.
Wen Qing turns up at Dafan Mountain at the same time that "Mo Xuanyu" does. She can't remember the past thirteen years, and every time she tries, she ends up in incredible pain. There must be a curse at work. Fortunately, Sect Leader Jiang has offered her his unconditional assistance.

Summary
Wen Qing runs her fingers through the dark fall of her husband's hair. He sighs, long lashes already fanning over his cheeks. It would be more practical for him to braid his hair for bed. But she loves the way it feels when it slides through her fingers, the way it looks when she flicks it over his shoulder and onto the broad expanse of their mattress. Jiang Wanyin likes it when she plays with his hair, too. She would never deny him such a simple pleasure.
She twists the fine strands at the nape of his neck around her index finger and tugs lightly. He sighs again and sinks further into the mattress, as though it's one of his beloved lakes. Their respective roles and responsibilities have kept them so busy that it's tempting to curl up against him and go to sleep. Hours of blissful, uninterrupted sleep, with all of their children on a visit to Cloud Recesses.
But Wen Qing would never deny her husband more complex pleasures, either.
