Summary
Most unusually, _not_ in Tolkien/Silmarillion fandom.
Fan poetry as tribute to the creators who have shaped me throughout the years. I have been writing these, very intermittently, for a while, and figured they should have a home somewhere.
Chapter 1: For you, a doorway... (Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children, and the fantasy worlds we build.)
Chapter 2: You think you're giving me the world (Frontier sci-fi, and the heroines who are expected to lose their thirst for adventure once they are married to the heroes.)
Chapter 3: A fairytale of rockets, incomplete (Ray Bradbury and classic sci-fi, and building our own fantasies.)
Chapter 4: The witch who used to haunt Potrero Hill (Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, and people who have fallen through the cracks.)
Chapter 5: Red shoes. (A different take on the classic fairy tale.)
Chapter 6: Arrival. (Fantasy characters who run away and grow up.)
Chapter 7: Elegy for Apollo. (Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota, and the irresistible drive to explore the universe.) -

Summary
"Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", Arda edition. Just slightly off-canon, assuming that canon is mostly Elven-written: with rockets to the Void, prosthetics and wheelchairs, mechanical dragons, surgery canonized as shape-shifting, nuclear energy of the Silima...
(The stories do not need to be read in order, though And the Void Will Be Ours is a sort of introduction/summary).

A 4th Age sequel to Arda Forged, though can certainly be read separately.

"Ouyang watched the firelight playing off Lord Wang's downturned face. There was a strange, ill satisfaction there, as if Esen had proved something Lord Wang wanted -- but in having proved it, had killed some other part that was still holding out hope." - Shelley Parker Chan, She Who Became the Sun
***
What if Esen had decided not to punish his brother? Lord Wang decides to let the cards fall where they lie, and Commander Zhao spills the beans.
Ouyang crumbles.
A sort-of-fix-it alternate universe.

F.A. 560. While the War of Wrath rages in Beleriand, the House of Olwë attempts to assemble a more complete account of the First Kinslaying than what seems to be the common version these days.
("He won't admit it but he is kind of put out about the way the facts were interpreted in Beleriand — that we were innocent helpless victims ravaged by the big bad Noldor. Also, someone finally told him the Noldor back in Tirion have been writing histories of the Darkening and just speculating wildly about the Kinslaying because they don't feel like they can ask us, and their version also casts us as helpless innocent victims. He'd like to set the record straight.")

Summary
For six thousand years, Aziraphale did his best to exist within the strictures of Heavenly conduct. It wasn’t a perfect practice; his relationship with Crowley, just for example, was never exactly what one might call “officially sanctioned,” or even, “particularly wise,” but the important thing was that Aziraphale tried. He wasn’t a very good angel, but he did his best, more or less. Wasn’t that all anyone could really ask of him?
It doesn’t really feel fair, is the point, that in reward for saving the world, Aziraphale seems to be having something of an existential crisis.
