The days darken, and their hands begin to fumble. The joints, stiff, resist bending; the fingers grow longer, tapering off into thin, trailing tips. What began as a grape stain is now soil-dark purple deep in the flesh of their palm, creeping up their wrist. Their hands are not yet not-theirs, not yet transformed into something belonging only to the earth, but soon enough.

But as much as Sam probably needs to deal with that feeling, that jealous guard dog feeling inside of him that says my new friend, mine, stay back when other people get close to Bucky, he's happy to experience the other side of it, the small satisfied rush he gets when Bucky's sprawled out in his family home, or mowing the lawn, or fixing the sink so it stops dripping, comfortable in a short sleeve shirt even around the kids.
