Taken aboard an alien spacecraft, Morgan and every other kid in her high school are dumped on an entirely new planet. No explanation, no field guide, and no rules.
And human beings aren’t the only new arrivals.
Morgan’s never been a team player, and she never imagined facing disaster with a bunch of confused, terrified teenagers. To live she’ll have to make allies—human and otherwise. Because she has no intention of settling down and starting anew somewhere else. Whoever brought her here can bring her back.
But first, she must survive.

Thorin isn't sure exactly when that point is, but he knows that it's probably some time before the person in question saves your life. On the far side of the Misty Mountains, Thorin realizes that he never quite caught the first part of Mr. Baggins' name, and he finds that it's astonishingly harder to learn than he would have thought. Fili, Kili, and Dwalin are no help whatsoever.

Summary
Bilbo starts to suspect almost immediately that something is wrong in the mountain, what with how odd his Dwarrow are behaving, and that strange feeling like movement and watchful eyes lurking in the ominous dark of empty caverns. Not to mention the entirely strange statues every which way one turns.
It doesn't take long for the Company of Thorin Oakenshield to realise that they are trapped in the mountain and in a very perilous situation, and that Smaug's protections still lay heavy on the hoard. All they can do is run, and hope they can find a way to break the curse on their mountain, before they lose everything they set out to claim.

Latin; a dead language with no practical applications except perhaps the deciphering of old texts and as a particularly quaint party trick.
Thankfully, as Harry finds out, Latin is not as dead as he was first taught when he decided to learn the language. It wouldn't have mattered anyway, of course; he loved Latin, and would have been proud to know it even had it been as useless as it was pretty. But in the world of Wizards, the world of Magic, Harry realizes his rare talent with words is particularly valuable in the highly complicated and controversial subject of Spell Creation, a subject he soon becomes enamored with despite having to hide his interest from everyone.
Besides, it's not like he's going Dark, after all.

Dues have to be paid and the affair around the Arkenstone resolved.
