The pirate captain laughed. It was a high, cold laugh that brought goosebumps to Bill’s forearms. It didn’t sound quite human.

“Did you just…” Cuphead gets to his feet, cautiously peeking out over the tabletop, “save me?”
“I saved me,” Dice corrects him as he makes his way back to the blackjack tables. “You just got lucky.”
“How lucky?” Cuphead slides back into his chair, resting his chin in his hands. “What do you think he’d do?”
Dice doesn’t respond at first, but Cuphead’s sure he shudders as he slumps back in his seat, almost hugging himself as his fingers drum restlessly against his folded arms. “Trust me, kid, ya don’t wanna find out what unlucky looks like after hours.”
“I don’t trust you.”
