Summary
Wei Wuxian gives Lan Wangji a simple present as a token of apology. Many years later, Wangji passes it onto A-Yuan, and it makes all the difference.
A story told in moments spanning across three time periods—school days in the Cloud Recesses, the 16 years, and after Wei Wuxian returns.
The two met up at a glade in the back mountain. It was a warm day in high summer. Butterflies fluttered among the wildflowers, and a gentle hum created by the various other creatures—the bush crickets and the grasshoppers alike—permeated the small meadow.
Turned out, physical exertion had no effect on Wei Ying’s incessant chatter. Even after twenty minutes, Wei Ying was still going on endlessly.
“Hey, Lan Zhan, what kind of girls do you like?” Wei Ying asked with a lopsided grin, pressing in with Suibian.

The Yiling Burial Ground Crows refuse to acknowledge this narrative. No, sir. They didn't absorb all that resentful energy and mutate an inhuman intelligence and become magical murder allies with the crazy necromancer that moved in on their turf just to lose to these stupid sword-fliers.
They deny reality so hard that they manage to bring their favorite non-corvid back from...where ever he was hanging out.
