    Summary

After his death, Achilles finds himself in the underworld. Prepared to face his judgement and eternity, he marches into hell, only to learn that Patroclus never arrived. He sets up vigil outside the gates, and waits.

'Where is he?’ he demanded, his voice breaking against the colossal thrones like a wooden spear against the walls of Troy. The crowd stirred over his shoulder, whispers amongst ghosts, but Achilles paid them no mind.

‘And who do you speak of?’ asked Minos, the barbs of his lashing tongue catching Achilles’s skin, tearing what little remained unmarked. He turned his attention to the last of the judges, and spoke solely to Rhadamanthus.

    ‘Patroclus.’

Brutal telling of Achilles’ time in Hades—just outside the door, really—waiting for Patroclus to join him in Elysium. It’s wonderful. It’s absolutely crushing, but when you get to the end you’ll be sorry.

(This is the one with the beach that gets bigger and smaller.)

Comicgeekery requested “a story where Crowley takes up a new hobby (not plant, driving, sex, or Aziraphale-related). I want to see him getting excited about something new! Aziraphale does his best to understand Crowley's enthusiasm.” I really enjoyed Lara Maiklem’s book Mudlark: In Search of London’s Past Along the River Thames so I wrote about Crowley learning to appreciate the tiny detritus of a past he blew through at the time.

Mudlarking in the Thames foreshore is one of my bucket-list activities. I know I won't find bits of the Mithras temple or the Doves Type, but one can dream these dreams whilst holding a bit of an 18th-century pipe bowl anyway.

This is incredible, and somewhere within it is the infinity of the Dreaming, held by the tiny slice of Endlessness that exists in every library.

(This is the one where Lucienne visits Aziraphale’s shop.)

A heartbreaking work of staggering genius, as they say. I sobbed at the end.
