So I was thinking about writing something about Sam and Charlie - it felt a little OOC, him telling her to keep hunting - and maybe I will later (because honestly, I think it's about the family, or the group, or whatever, and he would keep her in it without necessarily keeping her hunting, if she didn't like that aspect of it (but that also feels a little like a lie)) but that letter, man. It bugged me. And I like creating in-universe OCs because it's fun to see the characters through ordinary folks' eyes. So here. Have a tidbit about the letter.

Oh the non-AU AU that is perfect and awesome and one of the first things I ever read in SGA fandom and so also super nostalgic. I love this story.

Summary
Throughout the course of his hunting career, Sam Winchester finds himself unwittingly mentoring the next generation of hunters. He's not sure who thought it would be a good idea to make him a role model and authority figure for anyone, but his kids don't particularly care.
Most of them are convinced he hung the stars in the sky, anyway.

This series heals so much in me. The first 17 chapters are the original AU, and really showcase Sam as the compassionate badass he is, and don't allow much room for Dean at all - which is honestly my favorite part. The kids sticking up for Sam, *especially* against Dean, is excellent. I absolutely adore the double AU where Sam is King of Hell, and the whole series is just... exactly what I need when I get sick of the late seasons bullshit where Sam and Dean are concerned.

If Cas had had more than one or two days with Jack, before it all went to hell, he might have started teaching him the finer points of being a young angel - namely, how to manifest and care for his wings. Dean and Sam might have taught him how to be a human kid - how to play and wrestle like a human.
In turn, Jack might have noticed some things...and bluntly pointed them out to a wholly unprepared Cas and Dean.
These things might have happened.
I really kinda needed these things to happen.

The language in this is very rich, but honestly, it's the depth of feeling that gets me. Limited Sam POV, and his pain is just so visceral. Beautifully rendered.
