Jon’s eyes catch on the desk as he stumbles his way back into the archives, and it’s clean, is the thing. Too clean, with none of the little quirks or bits and bobs that had made it Sasha’s. The nameplate is gone and instead, there’s the same lantern, dusted, a shiny silver laptop sitting atop it, clearly untouched with the sticker stuck to its logo, waiting to be peeled off. Melanie's new station, undoubtedly, which made sense because there are a limited number of them in the archives and it's not like he could have expected them to leave it well enough alone when someone actually needed to use it.
All of that, save for the fact that that is exactly what Jon had expected.
“Oh- right, I guess you wouldn’t have been here for it.” Martin’s voice shocks him out of his trance. Jon’s fingers are on the desk and he shoves his hand into his pocket quickly. If Martin notices, he doesn’t say anything about it. The other man blinks slowly and a strange look crosses his face. “Sorry. We probably should have waited for you, only, we didn’t know how long it’d be before you got back and it’s not like Elias was super informative.”
