it is possible, lena will concede, that kara likes her as more than a friend. it's also possible that kara's just a naturally handsy person and lena is hopelessly deluded. clearly, there's only one way to find out the truth: through rigorous scientific observation.

Summary
Lena slides off of her stool, throwing self-preservation to the wind and flinging the door open without looking through the peephole first.
Kara’s wearing a pair of dark blue jeans and a sweatshirt Lena vaguely remembers borrowing in what feels like another lifetime. Her hands are in her pockets and her head is dipped forward, but her eyes are looking up at Lena, and there’s an air of uncertainty to her that Lena hasn’t seen in nearly a year. It steals the breath from her lungs and the words from her mouth, and her lips part wordlessly as they watch each other across the threshold.
“Hi,” Kara says softly.
Her weight shifts to rest unevenly on one leg as she looks at Lena, and Lena remembers how easy it was to talk to her, once.

"Come here," Kara murmurs, swallowing back a wave of nervousness and trying to project confidence as she leans on the counter by the stove and opens up her arms. "You look cold."
Lena stares at her open arms, eyes widening once she realizes what Kara is offering.
It's one thing to hug and let it linger for far longer than is really considered simply friendly. It's another entirely to wrap your best friend up in your arms while you wait for some water to boil.
OR
Kara butchers some hot cocoa but Lena drinks it anyway. Kara could not be more in love with her.
