Summary
“Hello?” She spoke into the phone, shushing Will and moving him to lay against her shoulder, one hand supporting his head as she cradled the phone in her other hand.
“Hey.” The voice was deep, familiar and yet unexpected as Joyce turned to keep an eye on Jonathan eating at the table.

Summary
Sophie had never been shy. Even when they had first met, their true selves hidden from each other by demi-masks and half-truths, she had been anything but reluctant, sharing joyous smiles and witty banter with him as if they had known each other forever. This reticence was entirely new and it frightened him.

Summary
She swipes at her eyes and climbs out of bed, tugging her fuzzy robe around her shoulders before opening the window to the frigid Maine winter air.
Nancy wasn’t consciously expecting anyone in particular, but she finds she’s not the least bit surprised to see Ace standing in the snow below her window.
She is, however, a little shocked at the big metal ladder he leans against her house. A ladder which he swiftly climbs, long legs swinging over her windowsill as he clambers inside, all soft sweatshirt and faded jeans and backwards baseball hat to keep his long hair out of his eyes.
Eyes that seem to shine in the moonlight, unassuming and familiar.
“I have a door, you know,” Nancy says fondly.

“Why are you ruining this?”
Her posture stiffened mid-step. She knew he was alone in the loft and there was no one he could be talking to, except his own demons. Suddenly, she felt all her power leaving her. She realized she couldn’t leave. Darkness has always had a way to find to her and pull her in and she was already stretched too thin, physically, mentally, emotionally, but she couldn’t leave.Bookmarked by interstellarbeams

Bookmarker's Notes
Her displeasure is so delightfully predictable. “You would kiss me in my father’s old office?”
“Eliza, my darling, I would kiss you in my office,” he says, the endearment rolling off his tongue without conscious thought, “with half of Scotland Yard on the other side of the door, if it would stop you arguing back at me about something or nothing.”
