  1. Summary

Every you, every me. Ogni me, ogni te. Ogni Dean, ogni Cass.
E no, il destino non c'entra, they make it up as they go.

“You once said being a starship captain was my first, best destiny… if that’s true, then yours is to be by my side. If there’s any true logic to the universe… we’ll end up on that bridge again someday.”

    Summary

Over the past few years, he’s started sleeping as little as he possibly can without dying — his under-eyes are permanently bruised and he regularly hallucinates during the day. It’s better than dwelling on what has come before: screams, limp bodies, spraying blood, blue eyes.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Per quanto abbia interpretato le dinamiche dei sogni diversamente da me, sta fic è proprio carina.
E adoro questo Yusuf gioviale, Nicolò prete San Francesco con gli animali e infine malta.

He doesn’t stop until a gloved hand bunches up the front of his tunic, and pulls him close. The eyes in front of him are wide—such a clear blue that, for a moment, Yusuf is blinded.

The Genovan from his dreams, red cross emblazoned across his chest.

Nicolo’s expression is so slack with shock that, despite the broad shoulders and matted beard, he looks younger than in Yusuf’s dreams. Like a boy watching his father slaughter a goat for the first time.

Yusuf never misses an opportunity. He swiftly slides his blade through Nicolo’s ribcage, puncturing his heart. He watches in delight as those angular features begin to curdle with hatred, agony and—oddly—a hint of betrayal. Blood pulses from Nicolo’s mouth; he collapses like a newborn lamb into Yusuf’s arms

“I was born to kill you,” Yusuf whispers into the shell of the Christian’s ear, voice hoarse from battle cries. Abruptly, a small dagger shoots out, quick and decisive, slicing opening Yusuf’s throat.

Yusuf’s free hand scrabbles at the gaping wound, tries its best to staunch the sudden stream. It’s no use. He glares down at his doom.

Nicolo is laughing. His crooked teeth are stained wth blood and ash, his eyes crinkled with a bright and acidic joy. It’s the last thing Yusuf sees as he slumps face forward onto the earth.

    ------

Once, he has Nicolo’s body in a vice, legs and arms clamped around him, and Yusuf thinks to himself: /I’ve never touched a man more than I’ve touched this man. Not even those few, furtive alleyway lovers./

    Summary

“What are you doing?” he mouthed into Nicky’s thigh.

    “Watching you sleep.”

    “What else are you doing?”

“Rewriting King Lear,” Nicky said. His voice was plagued with distraction. Joe pulled himself up enough to see the page; Act II ran red with slashed words. His lover’s eyes were the color of the sky just before a tornado touched down.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Luckily, Joe had been made a poet as well as a warrior. Words were his weapon of choice long before he had picked up his scimitar. He has been blessed with a soulmate who could silence people with his heart--and that just made Joe more verbose.

    Summary

“What does God want from us?” Nicolo asks.

Yusuf lays down beside him. They stare up at the clear night sky. “I layed siege to Antioch, once,” Yusuf says. “Now you do. The stars are the same. If God cared, he would change them.”

“You think God does not care what we do?”

“God created this world,” Yusuf says, gesturing up to the stars. “It is beautiful. I do not need more from him.”

    “Nicolo, I’m fine.”

Nicolo kisses the cross on its chain around his neck, eyes closed in relief.

“Nicolo, do not tell me you would miss me,” Yusuf says, bitterness weighing heavy on his tongue.

Nicolo kneels up beside Yusuf. “I do not want to be alone and alive,” he says. “Not like—not like this.”

“I would not have starved if you did not lay siege.”

    “Your Italian has gotten better.”

    “Nicolo.”

“But you still say my name like an Arab.”

Yusuf is silent, staring up at his undying companion in all this.

“I like it,” Nicolo whispers, as if the dead surrounding them could hear him.

“Your eyes are like the stars,” Yusuf says, words tripping from his mouth unbidden and unwanted.

Nicolo cups his cheek in a warm hand.

If they do not kiss, it is only because they are surrounded by death.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Post canon in cui Lew è quello soft e Dick quello rigido. Ann è stupenda, c'è una bambina e tanta tanta rabbia.
9 anni senza parlarsi, madonna santa.
Non penso nessun altro avrebbe potuto descrivere Dick come un casino totale e farlo assolutamente ic.
