For a brief, quiet moment, Jason hopes – maybe it’s one of the Green Lanterns, or any Lantern, really. Someone.
But since hope has so rarely worked out for Jason, a glowing ring enters his peripheral vision instead. So, close enough. He knows what it means.
He thinks the ring will make a beeline for Stephanie, or maybe Duke. That it will go to one of his dying siblings because that’s what supposed to happen, right? That’s how it often goes down.
But the ring floats right in front of him and makes no indication to move.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he mutters under his breath.

“The weather is nice today, you should take Jason to the beach, Kyle. I suppose you don’t get a lot of sun in Gotham,” she adds, addressing Jason.
“Not really,” he agrees with a smile. “And certainly not in my line of work.”
“We will consider it, thanks, mom,” Kyle replies as Maura just hums in acknowledgment and heads for her bedroom.
Dropping on the sofa next to Jason, Kyle says, “Now my mother knows you’re either a brooding vigilante or a shady crook.”
“Crook,” Jason repeats with disdain. “I used to be a crime lord, Kyle, show some respect for the profession.”
Kyle is already prepared to give whoever had interrupted his week off from intergalactic crises a beatdown, so he is rather disappointed when he finds himself in a sea of knocked out goons and subpar weaponry. What is surprising, is that Donna is not alone. It takes a moment for Kyle to recognize who she’s standing with, but when he does he can’t help but stare.
