It isn't the same. -- A glimpse into the heart of a child, growing up through the years without his parents.
Yuuri is six when he and Victor first say hello. Saying goodbye only gets harder over the next seventeen years as they experience the joys and pains of life and love.
FYI - this is part of a larger AU where Victor and Yuuri meet as children. I would recommend reading the earlier fics in this series before starting this one (at least part one, Wildflower). This multi chapter installment to this series begins a bit before Yuuri starts college.

I don’t want to die! Izuku screams in that underpass, drowning under the sludge villain.
Why don’t you let me help you with that? says a voice in the back of his head.
Izuku doesn't have a Quirk.
What he has is good instincts, unexplainable nightmares he can't remember, and a cat named Natsu.

No one saw it coming and no one knows why. Victor remains frustratingly tight-lipped on the matter as he passes his days in the hospital dispassionately, becoming increasingly bored until he discovers the presence of his fellow figure skater, Katsuki Yuuri, who was carried off of the ice after collapsing during his free skate at the Grand Prix Final. Together, they forge a close bond and a pact to achieve what feels impossible: living.
[Chapter 2 is now illustrated by me!]
???: why the fuck are you ignoring viktor
Yuuri: Who is this? What are you talking about?
???: its yuri dumbass and you know exactly what i'm talking about
Yuuri blinks at that. For a split second he wonders if an angrier asshole version of himself from an alternate universe, someone who spelled their name wrong and snubbed his nose at basic rules of grammar, had somehow found a way to pester him while he tried to prevent, by studying, at least one aspect of his life from crumbling into utter ruin. Then the split second passes and Yuuri reins in the insanity long enough to venture a rational approach.
Yuuri: Yuri who?
Three seconds later his phone rings.
Two weeks after his failure at Sochi, Yuuri receives a text from a mysterious number asking why the fuck he’s ignoring Viktor. So begins Yuri Plisetsky’s all out campaign to get Yuuri to fucking finally text Viktor and end his torment of watching Viktor pine, and so begins Yuuri's descent into a wonderland of texting his idol, meeting his #1 fan(s), and slowly rebuilding his life with a little help from his friends.
The set of Yuuri’s mouth softened into a private smile as Victor squeezed his knee beneath the table. His hands were bare, free from the gloves he so often wore when they were together on the rink, and the heat of his palm burned straight through the denim of Yuuri’s jeans. He slipped his own hand beneath the table and found Victor’s. Hidden from sight, their fingers began to flirt and play. A secret conversation all their own that needed no words.
Yuuri was aware that at some point—a moment in time he couldn’t quite place—Victor had become his boyfriend.
There wasn’t a single instant when it happened. It was a slow awareness, as if Victor had silently been asking the question for months now, and Yuuri had been giving him the answer a little more with each passing day.
