Summary
Equality is a taste Akatani Mikumo is unfamiliar with. It's something he's come to terms with a while ago, but, there's this insistent voice (that sounds eerily like Katsuki, all happy-go-lucky and pushy know-it-all tone too) in his mind that just hasn't gotten it yet. It whispers to him, "No matter what it takes, you can do it! Believe in yourself, Yami!"
After opening his eyes, he realizes that yes, that actually is Katsuki whispering encouragements into his ear while he sleeps and he's torn between being disturbed and touched that his friend cares that much.
(aka the fic where Mikumo runs off of encouragement and spite and with that, becomes a hero just like his counterpart. who said abandoned worlds couldn't shine as bright as the revised editions?)

Back in 1996, Elias has no idea why or how the Eye made such a powerful Avatar out of an 8 year old, especially when said 8 year old doesn't actually know he has any powers at all. Clearly such a child cannot be left outside the Institute's care.
