In which Clint Barton is Phil Coulson's and Aaron Cross is Eric Byer's.

The problem just starts when they're kind of the same person.

(or, the one where Clint Barton shatters into a million of different pieces when Phil Coulson dies, and Eric Byer just happens to be there to pick up the pieces.)

“Oh, That makes sense! Sanji and Zoro can understand each other without verbal communication! I read about different species that rely on varying body language and instincts when addressing partners.”

All eyes turned to Sanji now, and Sanji turned to Zoro. who was still staring. Rude.

“Sure? I mean, if he didn't like the food, I’d know, yeah?”

The cook nodded at the moss head, looking for backup. Zoro gave a small, funny look.

    “...yeah, you’d know.”

“It’s stupid. Okay, but like, I didn’t have to be here every Saturday for the past month. I didn’t have to volunteer. But I did because I thought maybe… it’s stupid.”

“It’s not stupid,” Steve said. He gestured over to where Tony was badgering the DJ to play something decent. “I didn’t have to volunteer either and here I am.”

Her eyes widened. “What do you mean?”

“I’m Captain America. I’m supposed to be brave but I can’t even ask someone out on a date. I’ll drop by and help them chaperone a prom, but I can’t ask him to go get a milkshake with me.”

She laughed, a delightful sound that brought a smile to Steve’s face. “A milkshake? You planning on going to the sock hop later?” Steve bumped her lightly with his hip as he sipped the punch. “You’re adults. Just ask, man.”

“You’re a teenager, just ask,” Steve countered. Sighing, she tapped her fingers on the table, her eyes cutting to Peter once more before she averted them once more. “You’re a great girl, MJ. Anyone would be lucky to have you.”

"I think it could be fun," he joked, grinning at Shane. "You'd have to be nice to me."

    "I am nice to you."

"Right, I would have to be nice to you. Nicer," he added before Shane could interject again. "I would have to buy you coffee or something."

    "Which you already do."

"Fuck, I do." Ryan turned to Kelsey, still grinning. "I don't think anyone's even gonna notice anything, we already act like an old married couple."

    Summary

“You shouldn’t love me, you know.”

Zoro looked up from his glass, eyeing the blonde as he pulled his cigarette to his mouth once more, an attempt to drown the pulse in his veins with nicotine. An unsavory addiction surely, but if anything Zoro was just as addicted to the taste now.

“The hell makes you think I love you, huh?”

    “Idiot.”

He muttered it softly, the same way he sometimes said how he felt. At 4AM when Sanji was asleep and Zoro was alone with consciousness, he would allow himself gentle whispers and his fingers to catch stray hairs on his lover’s brow.

Now he pushed dirty locks from Sanji’s forehead, blood and sweat clinging to his fingers but the touch itself tender. He let Sanji have his weakness there, while they were alone in the aftermath of victory. There was so little room for weakness on the sea, in their lives, Zoro allowed Sanji this.

They could only ever be weak with each other anyways. Anywhere else was death.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Sanji didn’t really understand why Luffy was so keen on the dishwashing roster. He could understand why it was important to Nami. The clues were all there in the way she handled dishes. But Luffy was horrible at dishes, not just unpracticed. Either no one had ever taught him how, or someone had tried and failed miserably, possibly giving it up as a bad job. Sanji suspected this was the general state of the case with Luffy and table manners, Luffy and risk assessment, and Luffy and quasi-decent penmanship. Still, he didn’t know.

Sometimes Sanji realized just how little he really knew about Luffy. Luffy liked meat. Luffy loved friends. Luffy had lots of friends, most of whom turned out to be appallingly dangerous and yet fundamentally decent upon closer acquaintance. Luffy had an older brother. Luffy was fanatically loyal when he chose to be. Luffy was unpredictable. Luffy was made of rubber. Luffy loved ships, and the sky, and the sea.

It wasn’t much. It was enough.
