Sweet, funny, perfectly IC. Everything I'd want from Howard/Rose. They play well off each other, and my favourite aspects of their personalities shine through.

Rose is direct, single-minded, and unwilling to settle for anything less than she deserves. I loved the way this Rose once again surprised me with her varied interests.

Howard being self-aware that he lacks awareness of others is in turn frustrating and funny. His insecurities shine through underneath the bravado, and I can't help find him sympathetic despite his acknowledgement that he's been less than truthful with most women.

Draco turned to look and saw the familiar red hair, the somewhat sexy freckles, and the eyes so intense, they had the ability to make Draco forget his own name. Nevertheless, Draco wouldn't, couldn't, forget his own name when it came to the Weasley.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is the fix-it fic I always wanted.

The tone of this series matches the show perfectly; at times it reaches ridiculous extremes of melodrama in a way only soaps can pull off, but it's also funny, light-hearted, and smart.

If, like me, you wish there had been more of the show, this is the story for you. Betty and Daniel's budding romance is the running thread, but this is an ensemble fic: all the main characters are allowed time in the spotlight as the pov shifts from one to the other, much like show scenes would. The prose is vivid and its rhythm feels like the written equivalent of watching Ugly Betty.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I first read this fic years ago, around 2008. I've moved to other fandoms since, but to me it remains a defining Jayne/Simon and Firefly fic.

The intimacy between Jayne and Simon develops gradually as they become a team. It's fascinating to see the way their skills complement and strengthen each other. Simon wields language as a tool when necessary, and Jayne never appears diminished next to such a cerebral character. On the contrary, seeing him on his own turf prevents his intellect from becoming a punch-line; Jayne knows how to play the system to his advantage, and he's skilled in what he does.

The story is written in 3rd person, but tinted by Jayne's pov. The author adapts her prose style to match his personality; at once minimalist (pronouns are often omitted), and detail-oriented. It's like seeing through a porthole: the imagery is focused, vivid, but the limited view asks the reader to fill in the gaps. There is depth and breadth beyond the words on the page.

This fic lingers past it's oh so satisfying ending.
