Stray Hearts (It's Raining Darlings, Won't You Come Inside, Meet My Sunshine?) by Otaku6337 for NezIsAnIzuSimp

It's an awful, stormy night on patrol, and Aizawa is about ready to go home to his Sunshine for some cuddles.
Then he hears a tiny whimper, fragile and delicate, and knows that there's a child somewhere out here, lost or hurt or both, likely to need his help. It's not even a question that he'll try to find them.
He's wrong about part of that though: there's three of them. Gleaming, narrow eyes set into thin faces, dirty clothing and matted hair. Shivering. He doesn't even have to think twice before knowing that he'll be bringing home strays of a slightly different sort tonight.

Aizawa doesn't particularly think, then. No, he falls back on instinct and half-acknowledged logic, digging in with his knife and glad that it's slightly serrated to better be able to cut at his capture weapon. Cutting into a tree is hard enough already; a smooth blade would only have doubled the strain and stress of it.
He manages to cut deeply into part of the root system covering the- the person, starting down by the shoe for now because he has no idea what he's going to find, if anything at all.
Two of his fingertips brush against something soft.
All at once, wood fractures, splintering, and there are root-wood-shards in his hands and he's on his back, sprawled upon the ground.
Beneath his own huff of breath and the crack of wood (thunderous in the forest that is suddenly unnaturally silent, no birds or wind or shifting grass-), there's a single other noise: a quiet, heaving gasp.

Izuku has never been inclined to give up. Maybe he's relied upon slightly less advisable routes to get where he is now (maybe he has fought until his nails tore, pads raw and bloody, and maybe he has bared his teeth and straightened his shoulders and slunk through the shadows when he could avoid the light, but he is here, and that's what matters-) but it's all been his own hard work, and nothing less.
Although, that being said, he's been working together with Mei for a month already now, and she's amazing. It's almost like having a friend again.
(Support Course student and part-time vigilante Izuku is determined to get into the Hero Course, and his best friend Mei is there for him, along with their teacher!)

They both sit there in silence for a long minute, Aizawa counting each of the kid's breaths (nineteen of them, nineteen more miniscule choices to stay alive) the whole time. But then the hero grows weary of it, and even more weary of how utterly blank the kid looks, sorrow rounding their shoulders and melancholy carving their shaking bones, apathy curling his toes against the ledge, so he speaks up once more,
"You didn't expect me to actually do that, did you?"
"If you're Quirkless, or a Lace, prove them all wrong and do it smiling. Spite doesn't have to be pretty."
(You guys know my vibe of rooftop Dadzawa by now ^^; Enjoy!!)
