Takemichi had always been one to do the unexpected; grabbing Mikey before he could fall, hauling him up with all the strength left in his failing limbs, and begging Mikey to listen. Mikey couldn’t understand - still struggles to understand - why Michi had been so determined to save him. Takemichi couldn’t possibly have felt for Mikey the same thing Mikey feels for him; He’d been prepared to marry someone else, after all. Why, after everything Mikey has done, would Takemichi even try to save him, the monster who has killed their friends over and over again?
But he had tried anyway. Had yelled at Mikey even as blood slickened their grip, as the pavement below felt as though it was coming closer by the second; Takemichi would soon pass out from the blood loss, the pain, and they would fall. They would die.
If Mikey had been strong enough to stick to his own ideals, it would have ended that way.
