Summary
Lan Zhan had always been cold to him, even before their marriage was arranged. On their wedding night, he didn't even remove the mask that had veiled Wei Wuxian all his life, and withdrew into his own, separate room. Two years passed like that. Scarce communication. Going months without seeing each other. Barely even glancing at one another. Lan Zhan didn't even know what his own husband looked like.
It was okay at first—a mutual understanding, a shared desire to be left to their own devices. Wei Wuxian would even say their arrangement was peaceful. But that illusion is shattered when his masks slips off his face.

Summary
Wei Wuxian did not have a normal childhood.
He moved from town to town, never staying in any one place for more than a few months at a time. He grew up eating terrible-tasting food, because inns could be expensive and his family did not always have the money to spend on one. Where most children got a dog, a cat or a rabbit, he had a donkey that was stubborn and tried to bite him when annoyed.
But he was loved and his parents had never given him any reason to doubt that.
AKA: MDZS in a world where WWX grew up with his parents.
