"Smaug owes allegiance to no one, but if he should side with the Enemy... a dragon could be used to terrible effect,"
-Gandalf the Gray
A different first encounter between Bilbo and Smaug changes the course of history, and an unlikely friendship conspires to redraw the map of Middle Earth.
an excerpt from 'An Unexpected Friend'
Smaug looked at the creature he'd caught. What a tiny thing it was! Even smaller than the dwarves, and much lighter of step. Had it not been holding a beacon while rifling through his gold, Smaug would hardly have noticed it.
But here it was, and the dragon was careful not to crush the tiny thing in his grasp.
"Here you are," Smaug rumbled, opening his hand.
Inside it was a creature he had never seen before, but upon closer inspection, one he knew immediately in his heart as kin. The creature carried within it something Smaug hadn't encountered in ages: the touch of the Green Lady.
A fellow child of Yavanna, after all these years.

Nicolo has a growing list of Things That No Longer Make Sense. They go as follows:
1) He can no longer die. Which, in itself, is pretty strange.
2) The man he killed multiple times is somehow, impossibly, like him.
3) He may or may not be having a crisis of faith.
4) His former enemy is treating him like a friend. Even defending him, the man that can't die.
5) And, most confusing of all, why does he like it when Yusuf smiles at him like THAT?

"Hinata," Sugawara calls out to him gently. Guilt consumes Kageyama from the inside. "Hey. Hinata, are you alright?"
"Mmrgh?" the smaller boy stirs on Kageyama's lap in his state of half-sleep. "What happened?" he asks, "Did I die and go to heaven?" Brown eyes crack open, half-lidded, as Hinata slowly regains consciousness. "Oh wait," he mumbles, "no," he sounds almost disappointed, "Kageyama's here so this must be hell."
What. The. Fuck.
"How long have you known?" Kageyama blurts out loudly in panic. And here he thought he was hiding it so well. The devil screeches, "What gave me away?"
In brief: Kageyama is the son of the devil; Hinata accidentally finds out. They strike a deal. Shenanigans ensue.

Bilbo had long since learned to cover the glow. To dampen it so he could pass as a regular Hobbit and let the glow be forgotten as a childish dream by his peers. He covered the source of the glow in his minds eye underneath snow and ice as thick as the Fell Winters touch, smothering it and keeping it well buried. He was a Baggins of Bag End, after all. He had an image to keep up.
He had managed thirty something years without hint of a glow to his person and then… Gandalf happened. Gandalf and several dwarves.
Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio have been neighbors for two years and every day is hell. Shoyo, a successful drummer and streamer, doesn't seem to understand the concept that other people need to rest while Tobio, a graphic designer and secret electric guitar player, doesn't understand the concept of needing to please his fans by doing whatever they ask (which includes noisy drum solos). To make things easier for both of their lives, sometimes you need to make a little compromise.
Or where Kageyama and Hinata decide practicing and starting a group together might be the answer to all their problems.
