Summary
It was barely an inconvenience for Voldemort to take down another great
wizard so easily, because it wasn't Grindelwald in that prison cell. In
fact, Grindelwald was gone from Nurmengard for several months by then. When
Gellert Grindelwald is freed from Nurmengard by dark wizards who don't
follow Voldemort and offered a potion that will restore his youth if he only
helps defend against this latest Dark Lord in exchange, he gladly agrees.
He doesn't expect to find love or family, but he has been granted a second
chance and he is, of course, smart
enough to take it.Unanswered questions concerning his defeat and
imprisonment present a danger, though, and his inability to strike out
against Voldemort in this new wizarding war because of a prophecy that says
a Potter boy must do it instead tests his self control. Sitting out a
battle is often far more difficult than participating in it for the likes of
Grindelwald, but there are more battles to come, and perhaps he was simply
ahead of his time that first go round. -

A Good day was when the screams ricocheting around the island weren't theirs. A bad day was when the despair became too much and they lost their minds a little. Most days were just somewhere in the middle while they waited.
