    Summary

"Cas wonders, as he often does, if he should tell Sam that he knows what it really is that he needs. He decides that tonight, after all these years, he finally will. They’re not getting any younger, after all, and he’s mainly stayed out of it because he didn’t truly believe that two people so singularly and utterly devoted could be that stubborn and obtuse. It’s maddening, and it almost seems purposeful, how they ignore each others’ signals, like they each have that secret locked down so tight (out of shame, probably, or guilt), each other’s light can’t get through. It’s tragic, almost, if he’s being completely honest." Coda to 12x11: Regarding Dean.

    Summary

So. Dean left with Cas over a week ago on some sort of recon mission, and yeah, Sam has been trying to bury himself in research, but he's just not coping all that well with the long-term separation. He wakes up early one morning, expecting the day to be like all the rest, except it's even worse than all the rest, because he's completely and totally alone on his (brother-less) thirty-fourth birthday. His bleak outlook quickly changes with an unexpected phone call, and he has to admit that maybe someone, somewhere answered his embarrassingly needy birthday wish, despite his lack of candles to blow out.

“Yeah,” Sam breathes, trying to convince himself he’s not dreaming. It’s just-- Dean is only sweet like this, open like this in Sam’s best dreams, so… how on earth could this be real? “I missed you,” Sam adds, breathing it shyly into the air between them, watching how the words affect his brother.

(Season 12/canon compliant, but I don't address anything specifically happening in the show. This is about what happens between what we see, you know?)

    Summary

For the past ten years, Dean has been bookmarking porn on the laptop for Sam to watch. Sam figured it would never go further than that, until one night, not long after killing Hitler, Dean decides to be brave. One thing is for sure: Dean is never going to let Sam live down the fact that porn is what brought them together, in the end. Set between 12x06 & 12x07, but not necessarily a coda.

"When Sam’s screen finally loads, he’s puzzled. Instead of a browser window with a video, his GMAIL account is up, with one new email from Dean. He sucks in a slow, steadying breath before clicking it open. The message has a video attachment, presumably from Dean’s cell phone, and nothing else. Instantly, adrenaline courses through Sam’s body, prickling icy-hot sweat under his arms and knees. He clicks on the attachment numbly, eyes trained on the screen. The thumbnail shows a bare-chested man with low-slung boxer briefs sitting on the edge of a bed, cupping the large bulge threatening to spill out."

    Summary

After the events of Red Meat (11x17), Sam finds out that Dean lied to him about what he did when he thought Sam was dead. Dean offers the truth in a way that changes them forever.

“Don’t be mad at me, Sammy,” Dean finally whispers. When Sam looks up, Dean is staring straight at him, his clear green eyes swimming in unshed tears. Sam understands; he knows all too well how it feels to lose his brother, knows even better the miracle of getting him back. He can’t be mad at Dean for making wild, impetuous decisions when faced with a life without his other half, but he’s so sick of the lies he could just scream.
