    Summary

Aziraphale knew that Heaven would be coming for him after the whole “body-switching” incident. He knew that Heaven, although they were supposed to be virtuous and forgiving, would never be able to swallow their pride and allow Aziraphale to remain on Earth unpunished.

He had just hoped it would take longer.

    or

When faced with a difficult decision from Heaven, Aziraphale decides to Fall for Crowley, and with Crowley's help, adjusts to being a demon.

    He also likes Crowley.

A dripping wet, shivering, and mildly traumatised demon shows up on the doorstep of Aziraphale's bookshop in the dead of night. The angel is delighted.

    Summary

Aziraphale (posing as Crowley) returns from hell much later than anticipated, Crowley talks to God, and a very old book prompts a confession that should have been made years (millennia) ago.

    ---

“I think I prayed,” Crowley blurted suddenly, just as the last of the gashes on his hand were healed. Aziraphale’s head snapped up to meet Crowley’s eyes and he pulled away to better see the expression on Crowley’s face.

“To whom?” the angel asked softly, thinking perhaps Crowley didn’t mean what Aziraphale thought he did. “To—”

“Yes,” Crowley interrupted, anticipating Aziraphale’s question. “I didn’t know what else to do.”
