It was weeks later, after reflecting about the consequences and possibilities, after reflecting about his regrets, after saying his goodbyes… that Lan Wangji returned to Qinghe.
“How far back do you think the array will allow us to travel?” Nie Huaisang asked him as they made their preparations.
For once, it was Lan Wangji who answered, “I don’t know.”
(In which Nie Huaisang takes on a different approach.)

“What are you going to do now?” Wei Wuxian asked as he took Little Apple’s reins, in such a quiet tone that was foreign of his norm.
“Can I come along?”
It stunned him for a moment, that single question. He didn’t want to break that fragile hope when he saw Wei Wuxian walking by his side by asking what he planned to do next, even if it was inevitable.
(What if Wei Wuxian didn't confess in Guanyin Temple?)

“… the descendants of Lan An were so inspired by his tale that they conjured up a method to find the perfect soulmate! Each generation of the main family branch had an individual that carried their soulmate’s name on their bodies, and each one of them went on a quest to find them across the land.”
“But don’t they also say the price of such methods is steep?”
“I heard that failing to match with one’s soulmate for any reason would bring them a curse of eternal misery!”
(In which Wei Wuxian is not Lan Wangji's soulmate.)

In Lan Wangji’s arms, Father died with a content smile.
Today, they were facing against a ghost who fed through his victims’ emotions, pursuing him to a shopping center’s parking lot, when a dark presence showed up unannounced, twirling a black dizi with a grin.
The rogue vigilante: the Yiling Patriarch.
“What are you doing here?!” Nie Mingjue had no time for this man’s antics.
“ChiFeng-Zun,” the Yiling Patriarch saluted, his grin gaining a teasing edge as he shifted his sights to Lan Zhan, giving no attention to the rest of the squad, much to their whispering indignation, “Hanguang-Jun…”
Within a blink of a moment, Lan Zhan had the man against a wall, his sword, Bichen, a touch shy of the Yiling Patriarch’s neck. Turning towards Nie Mingjue, Lan Zhan implored, “Leave him to me.”
(three times Hanguang-Jun and the Yiling Patriarch pretended to be enemies, and one time they didn't have to.)
