Colonel Kix began scheduling transports to go out across the galaxy, and the first few to return reunited several families with their stormtroopers quite happily and without incident. Suralinda Javos had returned to cover the events, and popular opinion continued to be wildly in favor of what the Republic was doing for the ex-stormtroopers.
People began, actually, to consider the war already won, which was its own problem. Taxpayers wanted to dump all their money into the SRTF—which no one was complaining about—but got stingy with military spending, leaving the New Republic Navy to find creative—though, now, more legal than they would once have been—solutions to their funding difficulties.
“The First Order relies on our complacency,” Poe had told Javos in an interview that barely got them the votes to pass their skeleton budget. “I’m against military spending as much as the next person, but as long as we have half a dozen star destroyers unaccounted for, we have to assume the First Order is still out there, waiting until we disarm to strike again.”
“Will we ever get to disarm, then?” Javos had asked him, suddenly the cutting reporter again.
“Force, I hope so,” Poe had said.

“Okay, everyone sit. Let's have a talk, shall we?” Leia said dryly, though not without sympathy, and gestured to the chairs on either side of Rey. “What is wrong with the three of you?”
Poe looked around at himself, Rey, and Finn, and laughed wetly. “We’re a mess, oh my gods. Why didn’t you permanently retire us?”
“Because you’re adults, even if you’re not acting like it,” she said, and then sighed. “Look, I know they don’t make it easy in the Republic. There’s a lot of bureaucracy you need to organize this many people without a dictatorship, which is why the Empire was so appealing. Freedom is never easy. Would you rather us go back to being underfunded and outnumbered?”
“Yes,” came three answering replies.

"I could just talk to her—”
[Ohh no you don’t!] BB-8 bleated, zooming in front of the door, brandishing their electric probe. [Bad luck to see the bride before the wedding!]
“Well, how about—”
“Or the other groom!” Snap said, trying to pull Poe down to a seat. “You’re going to barely be able to stand by the end of the day if you don’t sit down, Poe!”
Poe immediately stood up again, and this time BB-8 did shock him.
“Ow! Damn it, BB-8!”
“Yeesh, I have never seen someone go from hungover to Groomzilla so fast,” Kes marveled.

"The reporter will be coming in with the Republic delegations and the doctors we requested. We can replace Poe's arm with only the most basic models here, so we've invited a specialist. Which, since there's good PR in it for him—rebuilding the arm of the man who told the First Order to go fuck themselves, our best pilot, et cetera—the doctor is doing it basically for free."
Leia pursed her lips and muttered, "I haven't had to sell myself for the mission like this in a long time. At least this time there's no gold bikini involved."
Finn and Rey didn't get it, but she chuckled to herself.

Love in the time of the Resistance: Stormpilot (and eventual Jedistormpilot) picking up right after the events of The Force Awakens. Non-canon-compliant/AU from The Last Jedi.
“Hey, you weren't saving this one, were you?” Grantaire says, pointing vaguely to his seat and turning towards his left-hand neighbour. The neighbour looks at him, and Grantaire's breath hitches in his throat.
(Slightly coming-of-age-y college AU that will likely involve R walking into the wrong class in his first week, les Amis as editors of the student paper, an eventual nightly arrest, and a trip to Paris)
