(What if Vecchio had not pulled the trigger? What if Fraser had leapt onto the train unscathed and fled with Victoria? And what if, eventually, Fraser had come back? This story draws on first and second series only.)
"But–" He took a deep breath. "If you had shot her, Ray, I doubt I could have forgiven you. No matter what she did. To either of us."
Lips pressed into a tiny, dark smile, Vecchio said, "Wasn't her I almost shot."
"Ah." And then Fraser smiled, too; the same sort of smile. "Well, in that case, maybe I could have."
"It would have been one way of saving you from yourself," Vecchio pointed out precisely. "You'd still be a Mountie, Fraser. Your record would be clean." He pursed his lips. "We'd still be friends."
"Yes." Fraser folded both hands around the mug. He needed its warmth. "That would be presuming you hadn't killed me?"
Caught in a snowstorm, Mal offers Simon a place to stay--for a price.
Zoe came in from the bridge and took the chair next to Simon. She noticed the bandage on Kaylee's arm at once. "What'd you do, hon?"
Mumbling, Kaylee began to reply, but Jayne's voice drowned her out. "She found out that Mal and Simon had sex," he confided loudly. "Together."
"And you hurt yourself because of that?" Zoe asked, dismayed.
"No. ‘Course not. Were an accident."
"Oh, well, good." Zoe began to dish food onto her plate. Tucking the spoon back into the bowl, she turned to Mal. "You finally get that out of your system, sir?"
Mal chewed thoughtfully. "Off to a good start," he responded amiably.
Dana has been kidnapped by LaCroix. Mulder turns to Nick Knight to save her before time runs out.
In a harsh whisper, Mulder muttered, “Of all the stuff I’ve researched, vampires had to be real.” Staring out the window, he did not speak for several moments. “Will he kill her?”
“He may. You should be prepared for the possibility.”
“He can’t—” Mulder broke off. He steadied himself. “Will you help me?”
All things must end. Beth has died. She had secrets. Can Mick bear to uncover them?
Josef sighed and gave Mick a long, level look. Then he shifted on the heels of his smart and very expensive shoes and went to a small cabinet, part, Mick saw, of his elaborate drinks cupboard. A wave of chilled air informed him that it was some sort of refrigeration unit. Josef, head slightly bent and regarding Mick from under his brows, turned back toward him, holding an ornately carved casket, the size of a large shoe box. Mick's nostrils flared. There was something, the scent of which—so minute, almost imagined—he should not have been able to register. "Josef!" he exclaimed in a strained whisper.
His friend balanced the small chest on his spread left hand and raised the lid with his right. Inside, a container made of cut crystal lay upon a bed of midnight blue velvet. "Don't hit me until after you've learned everything."

The end of the world is coming, thanks to Snake Plissken. A traveler from another world, with her metal companion, might offer him a chance at an unexpected future.
On a sudden thought, he asked, “Do you know where she is?”
“Yes, Plissken. She —“ K-9's mechanical burr broke off. He came round until his muzzle faced north.
Spooked, Plissken prompted, “Somewhere out there?”
“Negative. My sensors indicate several objects entering the atmosphere, configuration corresponding to Old Earth ballistic missiles.”
The long awaited moment had come, and Plissken wasn’t ready. Face twisted with helpless rage, he made a low, animal sound. “How long?”
