Summary
After the events of Baltimore, the FBI convinces Nathaniel to join the Witness Protection Program at least until the rest of his father’s people have been arrested or found.

He puts Neil Josten to rest along with the memories of the Foxes. Locks the box containing the last year of his life up and tucks it back behind the thousands of other things he’s hidden from himself over the years. Another life left behind, another name and another story tucked away.
His father is dead, he’s going to tear everything he left behind apart. He’s won, hasn’t he? Done what his mother had always deemed impossible. He’s outlived the monster and he’s as free as he’ll ever be now.
Eyes shut on a hospital bed in the city he hates, Nathaniel is swallowed by his sorrow and his shoulders shake with a pain he will never be allowed to let go of.

Summary
Neil exhales as he slides into his seat at the back of the room, with its persistent scent of whiteboard marker that catches at the back of his throat. He feels the familiar rush of affection for his neighbour. His nearest classmate, who never speaks to him, or spares him more than the most cursory glance.
Neil thinks he might be a little in love.
It’s his fourth month of high school in Columbia, and it’s hell.
