“Seriously, you’ll literally do just about anything for me. It’s kind of pathetic. Following me around like some love-sick puppy, begging for a scrap of my attention.”
Cas’s blood turns to ice with that simple, eight lettered word. He thinks he does a good job at internalizing his reaction, until a dark little chuckle rings out behind him.
“Oh fuck, you actually are in love with me, aren’t you? That’s so pitiful, Cas!” Dean cackles like he just heard the best joke of his life, tilting his head back with the force of it.
An episode rewrite of “Soul Survivor” where Cas is in the bunker when Sam begins curing Dean of his demonism and the aftermath.
- Part 2 of Of Divine Intervention and Cardstock
Dean and Cas are both having a bad week months after pulling Cas from the Empty. When they get stuck in the car during a rainstorm, Dean finally gets the courage to tell, or really show, Cas how he feels.

When Dean dies and gets to Heaven, darkness surrounds him. He knows he’s going to be caught in a spiral of his personal best of memories, but he can’t help fearing the moment he’ll see Cas in one of them. Cas, who he wants to make amends with so badly, but who’ll be nothing but a memory unable to respond—but then there’s something off about the motel pool he’s conjured straight from 2002.
Dean thinks he could cope well enough with those memories on their own. They would hurt, they’d be ugly, and they’d twist in his heart like a blade getting pushed between his ribs, but he could live with them. He’s lived with them for years and years. But then, there’s a plethora of other memories to choose from, memories where the wounds haven’t healed over yet. Memories that involve him. Cas. They’ve made so many of them together, nightmares and happy ones, too, but now he knows better. He knows that Cas was in love with him, and that loving Dean is what got him killed, once and for all.
With a yawn, Castiel sits up. Not even Miracle is here. He tucks his feet into soft slippers and opens the curtains. Beyond the open door, he grows aware of Things Happening. Human shenanigans. Kind of like when Miracle is too quiet and it’s a matter of finding him ASAP to mitigate the damage done to whatever it is he’s got a hold of. Usually a toilet roll, sometimes, unfortunately, one of Jack’s stuffies. (Jack is sweet on Miracle regardless, his heart big enough for any animal.) Humans tend to get up to things and today, his humans are.
He doesn’t know why. It’s a regular Tuesday in a chillier than usual October. Nothing special about it.
