    Summary

When the smoke cleared, Steve was looking down at a stone maze, impossibly large and convoluted.

"You always do things the hard way, you know that?" Bucky's voice was quiet, almost sad.

"I wouldn't be me if I didn't," said Steve, with more confidence than he felt. He'd forgotten how far he used to have to look up to see Bucky's face, how easy it was for Bucky to hide his feelings by turning away or tilting his head back. "What happens now?"

"Now you have to come and find me," said Bucky, taking a step back. His leather riding boots creaked with each step. "Just remember that I gave you the chance. We could’ve done this like gentlemen, but you had to shove your head straight back up your ass."

Steve let out a bark of surprised laughter. Bucky smiled: warm, familiar, the kind of thing Steve saw when he closed his eyes. Then Bucky disappeared in a haze of glittering smoke.

    "What—"

"The clock has already started," said Bucky's voice, so close it felt like his lips were pressed to Steve's ear even though no one was there. "You'd better move now. We've covered a lot of ground together, you and me."

    Summary

“Saturday. Yeah, that’s good,” Steve says, and actually scuffs his shoe at the ground. Like a ridiculous shy superhero damsel. “Say eight? I live-“

“Yeah, big building with the A on it,” Bucky says, and can’t help a big stupid grin. Steve stares at him, looking a little dazed, and after their whole conversation it’s only now that Bucky’s brain catches up and realises Steve finds him quite attractive. So. Win for Bucky.

“Let me get your number,” Steve says finally, after they’ve stared stupidly at each other for about three hours, taking out his phone.

So they exchange numbers, and then Steve says he should go, and Bucky agrees, and they kind of stare at each other for a bit more, then Steve actually does go, but not before taking Bucky’s hand and squeezing it warmly in a way that makes Bucky want to shiver all over. Then Steve is gone, and Bucky is standing alone in the alley, grinning to himself.

Right up until the moment he remembers that Steve thinks Bucky is an escort he’s just hired.

    Well fuck.

    "Where's Yasha?"

"Get your things together," Rogers says, as he pulls his own suitcase out of the wardrobe where he'd left it and starts packing. "We have to leave."

"Where's Yasha?" Natasha repeats, standing, her weapon held loosely in her hand.

"We don't have time for this," Rogers says without looking up. He throws the last of his clothes in his suitcase and slams it shut. "Get your things."

She grabs his arm and pulls him to face her.

"Where. Is. Yasha." She keeps her voice calm, her tone smooth, but there's steel behind it.

"They have him." Rogers peels her hand carefully off his arm. "They have him, and if we don't leave now, they'll have us."

Romanoff, Bukonin and Rogers are the best field agents in Alexander Waverly's United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. But even the best can make mistakes. So, when Bukonin is snatched by Hydra, it's up to Romanoff and Rogers to rescue him. And for both of them, the stakes are so much more than professional.

    Summary

One moment Steve stood listening to Fury talk some nonsense to deceive the bugs apparently everywhere in Steve’s apartment, and the next moment a door opened where there hadn’t been a door before. In the doorway stood a figure, outlined in the fluorescent light pouring out from behind it. Steve made out arms, legs, a head, but around those were....other limbs, squirming and curling. His head ached when he tried to count them, perhaps three, perhaps twenty. His eyes shied away from understanding the sight of them, at once glowing with an oil-slick rainbow of colors while also being the same empty blackness of endless space.

The figure looked hard at Steve, meeting his eyes over a face-mask. The eyes were the same as those awful limbs, simultaneously a bright, mesmerizing gold and also holes into a place with no light at all.

    Summary

“I’m sorry, you want me to what?”
Steve sits back in his chair and tries not to glare at Hill across the conference table.
“Track down a cryptid.” Agent Hill repeats, tossing a dossier onto the table. Steve has to stretch out an arm to reach across for it.
    “A cryptid,” Steve repeats doubtfully.
