    Summary

    Bellamy helps her climb up the last stretch of the dropship's height. From here they can see the crater they left on the surrounding forest. The nearest trees are all blown back, their roots half-exposed in a surge of soil, their trunks blackened with soot. Looking at the graveyard of bones makes Clarke sick to her stomach so she looks up instead towards a brutal horizon. Praimfaya glows orange in the distance.

    "Is this what you saw, the first time you died?" Bellamy asks. He looks kind of pale, but that might just be the light refracting against the visor of his radiation suit.

    "Yeah," Clarke says, as casually as she can manage. It's a lie. It looked a lot worse from the radio dish platform, because it was closer and more terrifying and she'd just watched her closest friends explode in the sky. But it seems kinder not to say all that. At least Bellamy will deteriorate faster than her, if this Nightblood stuff works. She doesn't want to die first and leave him alone. She's been the one who lives longest and it wasn't worth it.

    Summary

    "While I share your contempt for this situation in which we find ourselves, do not mistake it as apathy," he hissed through gritted teeth, dark eyes burning. "I hardly expect your disposition to sweeten, but I will be damned if I allow my future Empress to behave in a manner that reflects poorly on me and on the First Order!"

    "If you allow?" She wrenched her arm out of his viselike grasp, batting his hand away for good measure. "I don't belong to you. I don't belong to anyone."

    "That might have been the case back when you were a scavenger on that pitiful scrap heap of a planet, but now?" His sardonic gaze flickered over her silk robes and the jewels woven through her elaborate braids. "Now you are the Chume'da, and the Chume'da belongs to her people. Their fate is entirely in your hands. Should you cross the line, it is they who will suffer for it. Am I making myself clear?"

    "I hate you," she said bitterly.

    He sneered at her. "See? Already you are acclimatizing so well to married life."

    Summary

    Gwen snorted. “You and Miles would get along-” A smile appeared on her face, growing wider. “You wanna go on a trip?”

    “A multi-dimensional trip.”

    “The only fun kind,” she agreed. Gwen turned to him, her smile large and coaxing. “It’ll be great. I’ll get you back here as soon as you want – but it could be fun! Meet Miles, maybe another Peter if we have time.”

    Peter really wanted to go to another universe, let’s be clear. But he a) had homework, b) didn’t need his brain to melt out of his ears, and c) had a dinner to get to in three hours.

    He totally ended up going to another universe.

    Summary

    The funeral was on a Wednesday.

    Funerals were never a big deal on the Ark. Bellamy can count the number of funerals he went to on one hand, because they only did any celebration if the person who passed was someone of importance. Even then, he didn’t care about anyone they were mourning, but instead he looked at the clock, counting the moments until it was over. Then, when they were on the Ground, the original 100 died one after another, they didn’t have time for any fanfare.

    So this is the first funeral Bellamy is a part of that makes him feel like someone’s punched a whole in his chest. Echo’s standing near him, close enough so he can pretend she’s touching him, but even she is afraid to be near him. His entire family are doing nothing more than staring at him, or the ground, or the gravestone. They feel fragmented as well, hovering around each other as if afraid to go anywhere near. Near each other, near the other Grounders.

    Near the empty grave.

    ~~~~~~~
    Upon landing in the new world, it seemed like humanity finally had a chance at peace. When suddenly something is taken from them, Bellamy and crew must find a way to navigate this new world when it feels like it's falling apart.
