Summary
The end of Nero. Thanks to everyone who stuck with me through this.
***
He stares at Posa, trying to divine the lines of his face. ‘And which calamity is it that so troubles you? My son in chains or my wife weeping?’
‘Must I choose one? Each new thing breaks the heart.’
His voice is flat and passionless, and the king stares at him for a long second before turning abruptly and stalking heavily down the passage, opening a secret door into the bedchamber. It strikes Posa how absurd it is that the king’s bedroom has become so familiar to him. Why should he know the thickness of the king’s pillow under his own head? In what position the king sleeps? How long he takes to bathe? Why was he chosen to know these things?

La Traviata told in a sort of non-linear narrative.
or
La Traviata in the style of Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo. [sort of. minus the magical realism aspect] ( I seriously recommended this short story it is SO good.)
