    Summary

“Most babies are born as accidents,” She says suddenly, like she’s decided that Buck has passed, that she can trust him with this.

Buck doesn’t really have an answer because that question hits way to fucking close to home. A year or so ago he would have said, yes, I was an accident, so I know how that goes, but Buck knows better now. Knows that he would almost give anything for that answer to still be yes. Evie’s finger works under the seal to rip it open, a stack of important looking papers dumping out onto the table in front of her.

“Not me,” she says without looking up as she organizes them into a neat stack, “I was engineered.”

    And.

And Buck’s pretty fucking sure a giant, cataclysmic hole has ripped right open, dragging him down to the earth’s core where he vaporizes into dust.

    Summary

Buck doesn’t own any pictures of Daniel.

Chimney exists on his fridge in a dozen different Polaroids, usually with an arm slung around Buck’s shoulders. He swears that has to mean something, because he thinks he knows, even with the loss of it at one year-old, what brotherhood should feel like.

But he doesn’t own it, not in the way Maddie bought the camera for him with her babysitting money all those years ago. She lied and said it was from Santa, and Buck thinks that’s when he realized how much she hid from him; because he loves his sister, but she used to pretend she was the black sheep so he could sneak out the door, and he’s been trying to pay that back his entire life.

So, years down the line, when his sister has gotten through her pain and is happy and in love again, Buck will not pull Chimney aside and tell him that he lied.

    Summary

So, Reggie's stuck in the washing machine.

It takes Alex a moment to process. No, he’s not phased through the washing machine; he’s literally inside of it, standing waist-deep in household appliance. Reggie’s got his arms braced on both sides of the machine, as though balance is precarious. When he tries to squirm, his knee hits the inside of the machine with a heavy metallic clank, and he winces.

Alex plants his hands on his hips and stares them both down.

Reggie breaks first. “Okay, it wasn’t my fault!”

“What? Dude!” Luke rounds on him, betrayed. Alex fights the urge to scream.

    Summary

Reggie and Julie become Art Buddies. For some reason, their friends are less than thrilled to be left out of the loop.

    ----

Alex inclines his head towards Reggie, who’s now bent over one of Julie’s cartoon sketches, raving about how dynamic her poses are.

Luke’s shoulders stiffen. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I think it’s an art term,” Alex replies slowly, “and we wouldn’t get it.”
