Summary
It’s when they’re getting ready for bed that Maddie’s absurdly struck with the gravity of the sniper situation.
It’s not Eddie and another firefighter currently being held up in hospitals, and it’s not the fact that her brother is currently watching over the kid who might as well be his son. It’s not even the fact that the 118 just spent the day waiting outside of the hospital for updates on their friend.
Chimney steps out of the closet with an LAFD-issued Keplar vest and Maddie has to shove back the memory of him on the ground outside of her apartment building with blood seeping into the stone from a knife wound.

"I think it might be time to call Eddie," Maddie muses from above, rubbing his back.
He groans pathetically against the cool toilet bowl in protest. "No," he grumbles, "he'll never let me forget it, Mads."
"Oh, but it's okay that I won't?" she counters, wrongfully amused, and his sister is such a traitor. How dare she find his pain funny?
"Sibling rules," Buck states, nodding against the toilet bowl.
Maddie sighs, and when he whines, she starts rubbing circles into his back again.
"I don't miss this part of the sibling rules, you know."

Of course he’s immediately wary of it. Porn videos have never worked for Eddie, so why would the audio version of them be any different? It’s the same strangers faking the same moans and whines as the other actors, just without a pretty face to go with it. Eddie thinks it’ll almost be less effective—seeing every tiny reaction that someone has to what you’re doing to them is part of the fun—so he doesn’t have high expectations. He doesn’t expect it to work.

Summary
He’s seen Buck with kids, of course. Buck is, truly, just the best with kids, and this isn’t news to Eddie.
What is news to Eddie, though, is how Buck looks with a whole gaggle of small children fawning at his feet. They don’t even come up to his knees, because Buck’s legs are, unfortunately, approximately five miles long. Half of them are running around him in circles, a few of them are sitting in the grass picking dandelions, and Jee and one other toddler have secured themselves to Buck’s legs like two koalas. Buck is grinning down at them and laughing while still keeping an eye on those running around, and Eddie very suddenly feels like he needs to get down on one knee and propose.
